For many years, baptism by total immersion of a believing adult has been a requirement for church membership in Baptist churches. With a growing number of people coming to Baptist church from other traditions, this requirement has necessitated that believers baptised by the modes of other Christian denominations be rebaptised in order to gain membership. For many, this is leaves them in the uncomfortable position of acknowledging that their prior experience of faith was insufficient or invalid because it has to be re-done. On the other hand, by choosing not to be rebaptised, they are choosing not to participate fully in the life of the church as a member. In this work, Ben Rodgers presents the case for removing the requirement of rebaptism on pastoral, theological, and hermeneutical grounds.
