This book is a recollection of stories, happenings and life lessons
while growing up in rural Ireland during and after World War 2. At
that time Ireland was somewhat isolated from Western Europe because
of its neutral status during the war and was struggling to define
itself as an independent nation, free from the clutches of
colonialism. Food and gasoline were rationed and Ireland was one of
the poorest countries in Europe. In this setting the author
humorously shares his stories while growing up before during and
after the introduction of telecommunications, electricity and
television. The author also does an excellent job tracing his
ancestors using his knowledge of genealogy.
