Elizabeth Barrett Browning (6 March 1806 - 29 June 1861) was an
English poet and one of the most prominent poets of her time.
During her lifetime her poetry gained great applaud both in England
and in the United States. She suffered from ill health all her life
and was amazed that Robert Browning fell in love with her and
wished to marry her. She was eight years his senior and an invalid.
The marriage resulted in her being disinherited by her father and
the Brownings lived in Italy for most of their married life. After
she died, Robert Browning published her later poems. This Volume
