Francelia Clark finds and follows two of the oldest trails in New
Hampshire's Monadnock region into history-on horseback. Along the
way she studies the cellar holes and rock remains of houses, wells,
and walled cow paths, as well as old journals, to illuminate for
readers the lives of the early settlers who made them.
