For over a year, Gereon Wetzel and Jorg Adolph filmed on site at
Dustere Strasse 4 in Gottingen, recording first-hand the organized
chaos that is daily working life at Steidl Publishers. From book
concept to design, from editorial and prepress to printing, the
film exposes the craft of bookmaking today. Accompanying Gerhard
Steidl on travels to artists' studios and galleries - from New York
and Mabou, to Doha and Vancouver - Wetzel and Adolph also capture
some of the unique characters and collaborations through which
Steidl books come into being. Gereon Wetzel and Jorg Adolph are
filmmakers whose passion is narrative, feature-length documentary
films.
Graduates of the film academy in Munich, they have worked in film
and television, and collaboratively since their 2007 film The
Reproduction Crisis. Wetzel and Adolph have received multiple
awards for their work and in 2008 founded the label DocCollection
with Ingo Fliess."
