fact that impressions from a stage can only be seen and heard led
Strindberg to disregard the senses in favour of the insights of
wisdom and inner vision; and it is from this position that the
Chamber Plays were written. Examined from this perspective, much
that seems obscure in these plays and their new style of drama is
revealed in an original and clarifying light.
