English summary: Johannes Bugenhagen, also known as Pomeranus,
counts as the third great Wittenberg reformer after Martin Luther
and Philipp Melanchthon. While researchers have always focused on
the friend, confidant and pastor of Luther, his later activities as
a preacher, exegete, consultant and university teacher as well as
his profound influence in the fields of ecclesiastical order and
social welfare and his position in the Interim so far have met with
far less interest. This collection of essays resulted from a
conference on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of Bugenhagen's
death and addresses the many facets of his work from a variety of
perspectives, concentrating on the late period of this reformer.
Particular emphasis is put upon Bugenhagen's relationship to his
immediate municipal environment, reflected in the town of
Wittenberg's everyday life and cultural history, and on the way he
reconciled his commitment to justice and politics with his opinions
as a theologian and organizer of practical theological and
ecclesiastical matters. German description: Johannes Bugenhagen,
theologisch-kirchlicher Praxis zueinander in Beziehung gesetzt.
