The issue of land has always been a source of great controversy in
South Africa. Ever since the predominantly black government came
into office in 1994, policies have been set in motion to radically
reform land ownership and distribution of land so as to compensate
for past injustices – mostly due to the perception that white land
owners (or their ancestors) unjustly “took” land from its rightful
black owners. Is land reform in South Africa is attainable – or at
all necessary?
