"I was seven years old when Hitler came to power," writes Paul
Kester. In these recollections he tells about how the events of
1930s Germany affected him and his family, as seen through the eyes
of a young Jewish boy. His story continues with his escape to
Sweden on a Kindertransport. He describes his years in Sweden,
where he spent the war years, escaping the fate of his parents,
much of his family, and many of his friends who were murdered by
the Nazis. By the age of 16, he was living on his own in Stockholm.
With the end of the war, he traveled to the United States, as well
as returning to Germany. The book concludes with his immigration
to, and life in, the United States.
