A double bill of films set in India. Comedy-drama 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' (2011) follows the experiences of a group of elderly Brits who arrive to take up residence in a newly-opened retirement home in Bangalore, India. Despite its glossy publicity campaign, the Marigold turns out to be rather different from the refurbished luxury hotel advertised in the brochures.
However, it soon begins to reveal some unexpected charms of its own. Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel, Tom Wilkinson and Maggie Smith star.
'Slumdog Millionaire' (2008), the rags-to-possible riches tale, was the winner of eight Oscars at the 2009 Academy Awards, including Best Film and Best Director.
Jamal Malik (Patel) is an 18-year-old street kid from the slums of Mumbai. So what is he doing appearing on the Indian version of 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire'? How can a young man from his background of poverty have acquired the knowledge to be only one correct answer away from winning 20 million rupees? With only one more question to be asked, however, the dream turns to nightmare. As the hooter sounds to signal the end of the show, Jamal is arrested and accused of cheating.
No one can believe that he could really know all of the answers he has given. As Jamal tells the story of his life to the police, the reasons for his success begin to appear. Will Jamal be freed to hear the final question and, if so, will he know the answer?
This two-volume set examines the need for a consciousness-based
view of leadership, which emphasizes universal human flourishing,
as opposed to a resource-based view, which focuses on sustaining a
competitive advantage. This approach is built around three main
principles: 1) Paradigm (Consciousness is primary including
complementary existence of opposites), 2) Interpersonal (focusing
on empathy and compassion), and 3) Individual (experiencing Oneness
and expressing creativity). Volume One is divided into three
sections. The first section focuses on Consciousness-based
approaches to Inclusive, Purposeful, Quantum, and Vedic leadership.
The second section focuses on leadership principles from Vedic
scriptures such as Ramayana and Vedanta. The third section includes
leadership principles from other scriptures such as Buddhism,
Confucianism, Daoism, and Thirukural. Aligning leadership practices
with the notion of unbounded consciousness, this edited collection
will extend the literature on organizational culture, leadership,
and sustainability, contributing to solving the grand challenges
facing humanity.

Microbes in Land Use Change Management details the various roles of
microbial resources in management of land uses and how the microbes
can be used for the source of income due to their cultivation for
the purpose of biomass and bioenergy production. Using various
techniques, the disturbed and marginal lands may also be restored
eco-friendly in present era to fulfil the feeding needs of mankind
around the globe. Microbes in Land Use Change Management provides
standard and up to date information towards the land use change
management using various microbial technologies to enhance the
productivity of agriculture. Needless to say that Microbes in Land
Use Change Management also considers the areas including generation
of alternative energy sources, restoration of degraded and marginal
lands, mitigation of global warming gases and next generation
-omics technique etc. Land use change affects environment
conditions and soil microbial community. Microbial population and
its species diversity have influence in maintaining ecosystem
balance. The study of changes of microbial population provides an
idea about the variation occurring in a specific area and
possibilities of restoration. Meant for a multidisciplinary
audience Microbes in Land Use Change Management shows the need of
next-generation omics technologies to explore microbial diversity.

Governance is central to mass prosperity since it affects both the
prospects for enhanced and sustained income growth as well as
non-income indicators of human development. This volume, edited by
Anil Deolalikar, Shikha Jha and Pilipinas Quising, puts together
cogent and well-rounded analyses by leading scholars on this topic
and hence provides an in-depth and prescient perspective on
governance in the Asia-Pacific countries. As such, this is an
invaluable contribution and will be welcomed by academics and
students as well as policymakers.' - Raghbendra Jha, Australian
National University'This is an outstanding set of essays on the
state of, and changes in, public services in developing Asia,
paying particular attention to evidence and lessons and examining
the role that governance and citizen empowerment can play in
improving public service delivery. The themes cover the complex
relationship between governance and economic development; the
delivery of public services as the face of governance; and the role
of empowerment in improving the delivery of public services. Each
chapter, written by an acknowledged expert, offers an insightful
review of the debates and evidence, and a meticulous distillation
of policy implications. A tour de force that will be indispensable
for both policymakers and scholars in this field.' - Raghav Gaiha,
University of Delhi, India Governance in Developing Asia is one of
the first books of its kind to provide an overview of the role that
better governance and citizen empowerment can play in improving
public service delivery in developing Asia. The World Development
Report 2004 set a framework for public service delivery in terms of
the short and long roads to accountability of service providers to
citizens. More than a decade on, this important book revisits the
issue and departs from the WDR framework, highlighting its
shortcomings and offering alternative solutions. The contributors
present fresh evidence on the relationship between governance and
development outcomes, including growth and indicators of living
standards. They argue that the Asia-Pacific region must do better
in delivering essential public services if it wishes to continue
improving the quality of life for millions of its people. They show
how the quantity and quality of public services in a country can be
improved if the government actively solicits citizen involvement in
service delivery. Researchers and students of public policy and
Asian studies will find this to be a useful read. Public
policymakers and practitioners in government and non-government
agencies will draw important lessons from the issues raised and
solutions proposed in this book. Contributors: Y. Aiyar, B.
