"A motherlode of practical ideas and practices on building employee
morale and unleashing employee potential. It represents the new
frontier of organizational effectiveness--teaching us to treat our
employees as we want them to treat our best customers." -- Dr.
Stephen R. Covey, Author of "THE SEVEN HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE
PEOPLE"
"This exciting book is the secret weapon that every employer can
use to make productivity soar--one employee at a time!" - Scott
DeGarmo, Publisher, SUCCESS magazine
Take the brakes off your business. From management specialist and
author of the innovative bestseller "1001 WAYS TO REWARD EMPLOYEES"
comes a practical handbook chock full of ideas for increasing
employee involvement and enthusiasm--the key to an organization's
success. Weaving together case studies, examples, suggestions, and
quotes from hundreds of America's most energized businesses and
business leaders, "1001 WAYS TO ENERGIZE EMPLOYEES" is a how-to for
getting not just the most--but the best--from everyone in the
organization.
A powerful story about the African philosophy of teamwork and
collaboration that has the power to reshape our workplaces, our
relationships with our coworkers, and our personal lives, written
by the bestselling coauthor of "Fish " and the bestselling author
of "1001 Ways to Reward Employees."
John Peterson, a new manager in the credit department at a major
big-box retailer, is struggling in his job. The people under him
are not working as well or effectively as they need to, and his
department is falling behind in meeting its goals. His only
solution is to take on more work himself, burning the midnight oil
and coming in most weekends to pick up the slack and keep his
department above water.
When one of the employees stays behind to help him--a young man who
came to America from a small village in Africa--he learns of the
ancient wisdom and hidden power of the African philosophy of
Ubuntu. Before long, it begins to change the way he thinks about
the people he works with, about himself, and about how he runs his
department and his life.
In an engaging and completely fresh narrative that holds a unique
message for today's business world, "Ubuntu " shows us a way to
overcome our fears, insecurities, and the "me-ism" that so often
permeates our workplaces, and replace it with a culture of genuine
respect and collaboration. It promises to take its place alongside
"Fish " and other business parables as the next bestselling classic
in the business category.
This edition combines the best of the 1994 and 2005 editions, with
new examples of employee rewards throughout, but most importantly
has all new sections for dealing with emerging workforce trends -
the rising presence of contingent workers (freelancers and
perma-lancers), the Millennia generation (those who came of age
post-2000 and have an entirely different set of workplace values
and expectations), and a globalised workforce (in which an employee
with whom you work closely may be located on another continent.)
With "1001 Ways to Reward Employees", Bob Nelson created a
management revolution, with the knowledge that truly what motivates
employees is not a promotion or a raise, but those intangible,
unexpected gestures that signify real appreciation for a job well
done. 1.5 million copies later, it's clear he's onto something.
"1501 Ways to Reward Employees" opens with an all-new exploration
of trends affecting managers in the second decade of the 2151
century, focusing on five key trends affecting today's workforce:
Attracting/Retaining Skilled Talent: The Growing Worker Shortage;
How the Millennials Are Changing the Rules at Work; The Rise of the
Contingent Worker (Freelancers, Consultants, Contractors); The
Evolving Role of Virtual Employees; and, Motivating and Rewarding a
Globally Diverse Workforce. "1501 Ways" also combines the best of
the first two editions, with hundreds of new examples of how
companies are using rewards and recognitions to boost productivity
and keep employees happy.

Still Grousin' Buddies is a sequel of sorts to our first book,
Grousin Buddies (Authorhouse 2005). More tales of fins, feathers,
and friends, this edition brings more of the same, life lessons
learned afield with the people we care most about. Although
arranged by chapters of similar content, each story and poem stands
alone. Each an unique experience, yet not so different than those
of others who love the outdoors and the bounties it has to offer.
Our goal is to find a connection with our readers, a moment that is
part of the shared human experience.
As our good friend, Retz, often says, "Life just keeps comin' at
ya." This book is all about life with its fickle little twists and
turns. We (the authors) met playing volleyball and grew to be best
friends, business associates, and hunting partners. In our 30+
years of friendship we have played, laughed, loved, cried, and
grieved together. Set against the backdrop of Northern Wisconsin,
the stories in this book were not written specifically to go into a
book. This book "just kind of happened" because of our love not
only of writing but of the people, places, and events that shaped
our lives; it happened because of our passion for the outdoors, its
lessons, beauty, and bounty. Light a fire, grab a libation, put
your feet up and share a bit of life with us.
