Sci-fi thriller from director Richard Clabaugh, set in a
future-world where mobile security cameras, commissioned to protect
citizens, become a grave threat. New legislation has been passed in
the USA called the 'Freedom of Observation Act', allowing
government surveillance cameras to film people's every move. The
cameras, or eyeborgs, seem to be doing their jobs, until police
agent, R.J. 'Gunner' Reynolds (Adrian Paul) and punk-rock rebel
Jarett start to notice people are disappearing and the robots are
involved. The pair must find a way to go to Jarett's uncle, the
President, and put an end to the silent tyranny of the robots.
Drawing on archaeological findings from the Maya lowlands, War Owl
Falling shows how innovation and creativity led to social change in
ancient societies. Markus Eberl discusses the ways eighth-century
Maya (and Maya commoners in particular) reinvented objects and
signs that were associated with nobility, including scepters,
ceramic vessels, ballgame equipment, and the symbol of the owl.
These inventions, he argues, reflect assertions of independence and
a redistribution of power that contributed to the Maya collapse in
the Late Classic period. Eberl emphasizes that individual
decision-making - the ability to imagine alternate worlds and to
act on that vision - plays a large role in changing social
structure over time. Pinpointing where and when these Maya
inventions emerged, how individuals adopted them and why, War Owl
Falling connects technological and social change in a novel way.
The field-tested probes are short, easy to administer, and ready to

Future Oil Demands of China, India, and Japan examines how Chinese
oil energy will likely shape future Sino-Indian and Sino-Japanese
relations under conditions of dependency and non-dependency, and
whether competition or cooperation for scarce energy resources will
result. The author lists and describes three possible Chinese oil
energy futures or scenarios (Competitive Dependency, Competitive
Surplus, and Cooperative Surplus) using Scenario Analysis and the
PRINCE Method to subsequently estimate their associated
likelihoods. Further, this book discusses and evaluates their
strategic implications for India and Japan and estimates the most
likely oil energy future. This book argues that China's rising
dependence on imported oil, along with its adroit use of soft
power, economic prowess, strategic engagement of the world as an
alternative model of political and economic development, military
modernization, and rapid economic growth can only mean that it will
alter the global status quo and become the dominant actor in world
affairs in the near future. India and Japan will be less
influential economically because China is skillfully harnessing and
strategically exercising the elements of national power
(diplomatic, informational, military, and economic) to acquire
scarce oil energy resources in the Near East, Western Hemisphere,
and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Twenty-five years after the introduction of European citizenship,
it seems as though the EU has overreached itself. In its current
state the EU provokes much negative political reaction among its
citizens. Conversely, interest in European issues has increased
during the crisis, pro-European social movements have emerged and
new debates on reforms of the Union?s architecture are flaring up.
Through updated and integrated multidisciplinary research this book
reconsiders the contradictions and constraints, as well as the
promises and prospects, for the future of EU citizenship. With
chapters from leading researchers in the field, Reconsidering EU
Citizenship is an innovative contribution to the lively debate on
European and transnational citizenship. Bringing together policy
research and reflections from political theory, this book offers an
up-to-date critique of the current state of EU citizenship as well
as new insights for its future. As citizenship rights issues become
more prominent on the EU policy-making agenda, Reconsidering EU
Citizenship will be an invaluable resource to students of EU policy
as well as policy-makers and practitioners in the field.

Striking a balance between the aspirations of individual freedom
and the demands of organized society is a central quest of
constitutional law. Germany and America provide different paths
toward accomplishment of this equilibrium, revealing two paths to
freedom and its relation to community. This work is addressed to
philosophers of law, political theorists, constitutional lawyers,
and everyone interested in protecting human rights and learning the
meaning of human personality and freedom as expressed in democratic
constitutional regimes. Eberle challenges current thinking in the
field by setting out alternative visions of human freedom, dignity,
personality and expression; demonstrating that use of comparative
methodology has much to offer critical examination of major
constitutional and public policy issues; and showing that different
conceptions of fundamental ideas are possible. Exploring the nature
of human personality as reflected in the constitutional law of two
important constitutional democracies, Eberle inquires into human
values and human freedom, across national borders, in pursuit of a
better understanding of human potential and the nature and limit of
freedom. The central personality traits examined comprise human
dignity; autonomy; self-determination and identity, including
privacy, computer privacy, control over personal information, and
maintenance of one's image, words, and reputation; abortion; and
freedom of expression, including defamation, offensive speech, hate
speech, and burning of the flag. The book weaves between German and
American law in examining these questions, providing a unique
comparative perspective on the idea of human personality and
freedom.
Working at the intersections of feminist literary criticism, new historicism, and narratology, Chastity and Transgression in Women's Writing, 1792-1897 revises current understandings of 19th Century representations of prostitution, female sexuality, and the "rights of women" debate. Eberle's project explores the connections and disjunctures between women writing during the Romantic period and those working throughout the Victorian era. Roxanne Eberle considers a wide range of authors including Mary Wollstonecraft, Amelia Opie, Mary Hays, Elizabeth Gaskell, and Sarah Grand.

This Festschrift contains five research surveys and thirty-four
shorter contributions by participants of the conference
''Stochastic Partial Differential Equations and Related Fields''
hosted by the Faculty of Mathematics at Bielefeld University,
October 10-14, 2016. The conference, attended by more than 140
participants, including PostDocs and PhD students, was held both to
honor Michael Roeckner's contributions to the field on the occasion
of his 60th birthday and to bring together leading scientists and
young researchers to present the current state of the art and
promising future developments. Each article introduces a
well-described field related to Stochastic Partial Differential
Equations and Stochastic Analysis in general. In particular, the
longer surveys focus on Dirichlet forms and Potential theory, the
analysis of Kolmogorov operators, Fokker-Planck equations in
Hilbert spaces, the theory of variational solutions to stochastic
partial differential equations, singular stochastic partial
differential equations and their applications in mathematical
physics, as well as on the theory of regularity structures and
paracontrolled distributions. The numerous research surveys make
the volume especially useful for graduate students and researchers
who wish to start work in the above-mentioned areas, or who want to
be informed about the current state of the art.
On the Eve of graduating from High School, Jon Sands finds himself
standing on the threshold of the rest of his Life. Like many teens
in his shoes, he is unsure of what he wants to do with the rest of
his life. The only thing he is sure of is his Love for Patty
LaPeche, his life long friend. Together they devise a plan only to
have it trounced by a power bigger than Jon. Instead of giving up
and giving in, Jon charges to the challenge with the help of his
friends and family to fight for what is truly important in his
life.
Significant experimental work is devoted to the preparation of one
and zero dimensional semiconductor structures in view of future
electronic and optical devices which involve quantum effects. The
aim is good control in the realisation of nanometer structures both
in vertical and lateral direction. Conventional processing
techniques based on lithography face inherent problems such as
limited resolution and surface defects caused by reactive ion
etching. During the last few years several research groups started
working on direct syntheses of semiconductor nanostructures by
combining epitaxial growth techniques such as molecular beam
epitaxy and chemical vapour deposition with pre patterning of the
substrate wafers. Another idea is based on island formation in
strained layer heteroepitaxy. Zero and one dimensional structures
with dimensions down to a few atomic distances have been realised
this way. An important point is that the size of the quantum
structures is controlled within the epitaxial deposition in a
self-adjusting process. The main subjects of the book are:
Theoretical aspects of epitaxial growth, selfassembling
nanostructures and cluster formation, epitaxial growth in tilted
and non-(001) surfaces, cleaved edge overgrowth, nanostructure
growth on patterned silicon substrates, nanostructures prepared by
selective area epitaxy or growth on patterned substrates, in-situ
etching and device applications based on epitaxial regrowth on
patterned substrates. The experimental work mainly concentrated on
GaAs/A1GaAs, GaAs/InGaAs, InGaP/InP and Si/SiGe based semiconductor
heterostructures. Growth related problems received special
attention. The different concepts for preparation of low
dimensional structures are presented to allow direct comparison and
to identify new concepts for future research work.

Frontkampfer I: Blitzkrieg 1939-1942 is a collection of rare
photographs, many of which have never been published before,
highlighting the German war machine in the early years of the
Second World War. Beginning in September 1939 with the invasion of
Poland, the reader will follow the German military as it conquers
France, the Balkans, and North Africa, before sweeping deep into
the Soviet Union during Operation Barbarossa. Frontkampfer I:
Blitzkrieg 1939-1942 reaches its crescendo as the German military
occupies the Caucasus Mountains region and advances to the frontier
of Asia, before being repelled by the Red Army at the horrific
Battle of Stalingrad on the banks of the Volga River in the winter
of 1942. Frontkampfer I: Blitzkrieg 1939-1942 offers the reader a
glimpse into the conditions of the opening years of the war in
photographs directly from the albums of the men who were there.
From heavy tanks to small arms to uniforms and equipment,
Frontkampfer I: Blitzkrieg 1939-1942 is a collection of rarely seen
German photographs of World War Two, with pertinent historical
background, and a study of the photographs themselves.
Guide children to new heights with the Creative Problem Solving
methods outlined in CPS for Kids. This book will teach your
students an exciting and powerful problem-solving method from start
to finish. Each step in the process, from finding problems to
finding solutions, is outlined in detail and includes accompanying
activities on reproducible pages. Designed for students in grades
2-8, these activities are challenging and interesting. Creative
Problem Solving is a process that allows people to apply both
creative and critical thinking to find solutions to everyday
problems. CPS can eliminate the tendency to approach problems in a
haphazard manner and, consequently, prevents surprises and/or
disappointment with the solution. Students will learn to work
together or individually to find appropriate and unique solutions
to real-world problems they may face by using this tested method.
Most importantly, they will be challenged to think both creatively
and critically as they tackle each problem they face. CPS for Kids
includes 30 reproducible classroom activities. Grades 2-8
This volume provides an overview of the field of Hybrid Machine
Translation (MT) and presents some of the latest research conducted
by linguists and practitioners from different multidisciplinary
areas. Nowadays, most important developments in MT are achieved by
combining data-driven and rule-based techniques. These combinations
typically involve hybridization of different traditional paradigms,
such as the introduction of linguistic knowledge into statistical
approaches to MT, the incorporation of data-driven components into
rule-based approaches, or statistical and rule-based pre- and
post-processing for both types of MT architectures. The book is of
interest primarily to MT specialists, but also - in the wider
fields of Computational Linguistics, Machine Learning and Data
Mining - to translators and managers of translation companies and
departments who are interested in recent developments concerning
automated translation tools.
The central aim of this book is to foster connections between
scholarly discussions of German foreign policy and broader
theoretical debates in International Relations and beyond. While
there has been a lively discussion about 'new German foreign
policy', this book argues that it has not engaged substantially
with international and foreign policy theory, especially with
respect to its more recent developments. Reviewing the recent
literature on German foreign policy, this book posits that the most
discussed works are still largely provided by the 'Altmeister'
(Maull, Szabo, Bulmer and Paterson) who were already dominating the
field a quarter of a century ago. While there is a general decline
in the academic study of German foreign policy, the chapters in
this edited volume show that a range of novel, theoretically
sophisticated but often disconnected scholarship has appeared on
the margins. This book contributes to this emerging work by
providing conceptual interrogations, which question the existing
research and provide theoretically-grounded alternatives;
initiating critical discussions and evaluations of the nature of
Germany's actorness and the environment in which it operates and
proposing applications of less familiar perspectives on German
foreign policy. The chapters in this book were originally published
as a special issue of German Politics.
The fields of communication, signal processing, and embedded
systems and circuits are brought together in this book. These
fields come together with a single design goal, a WLAN transceiver
which combines analog and digital design, VLSI and systems design,
algorithms and architectures, as well as design and CAD/EDA. This
book focuses on the overall approach to design problems and design
organization needed for transceiver design. It does not focus on
one particular standard.
These proceedings of the Twenty-Second European Peptide Symposium
include 437 articles concerning peptide synthesis, rapid
preparation/libraries, conformation, de novo design, and biological
physicochemical and immunological aspects. The symposium was held
under the auspices of the newly founded European Peptide Society
although it is clear that the contributions are de facto
international.
