Traditionally, network security (firewalls to block unauthorized
users, Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS)to keep attackers out, Web
filters to avoid misuse of Internet browsing, and antivirus
software to block malicious programs) required separate boxes with
increasedcost and complexity. Unified Threat Management (UTM)makes
network security less complex, cheaper, and more effective by
consolidating all these components. This book explains the
advantages of using UTM and how it works, presents best practices
on deployment, and is a hands-on, step-by-step guide to deploying
Fortinet's FortiGate in the enterprise.
Provides tips, tricks, and proven suggestions and guidelines to set

As 1941 arrives, global tensions have reached new heights. War
between the British and German empires seems increasingly likely,
but more worrying is the revelation that Emily, the first Champion,
has turned against her government. When Lady Alex Smith, Second
Lieutenant Stephanie Shylock, and Sergeant Mike Strong begin to
investigate the rogue Champion's plans, a series of violent attacks
unleash chaos around the world. Is Emily seeking to destroy the
system she helped create... or are others using her actions to
conceal their own, more dangerous agenda? War Footing includes five
novellas that have previously only been available in the ebook
format, plus an exclusive bonus chapter. For more information,

In 1973, John Fioravanti began a very important personal journey:
he became a teacher. After more than thirty years in the profession
he loves, he looks back at the path he has followed, and reflects
not just on what he has taught his students, but on the lessons
they have taught him. With faultless honesty, he recounts the
personal demons he faced, the triumphs he enjoyed, and the insights
he has gained on his quest to the heart of teaching.
Since 1881, Britain, Canada and the United States have been
colonizing another planet. Now it's 1940, and tensions between the
world's Empires are mounting because the English-speaking nations
enjoy exclusive control over a uniquely powerful resource:
genetically-enhanced humans known as 'Champions'. Lady Alex Smith
is the newest Champion, and her best friend Stephanie Shylock has
joined the British Army so they can work together. Along with
Sergeant Mike Strong, a veteran soldier with a colorful reputation,
these two must follow in the footsteps of their famous parents, and
save the world... perhaps both worlds.
The third novel in the Equations series: Though the situation at
Genesis is stabilized, the Earthers and humans remain at war with
the Kroggs. After nine months of fighting, the Allied Fleets find
themselves at the end of a dangerously long supply line, and are
forced to rely on their new base at Gibraltar. The Kroggs, however,
are growing increasingly aggressive; as First Lord Setter Caine
discovers, they are aware of the Allied weaknesses, and are ready
to exploit them. Only unconventional strategies from officers like
Savanna Felix, Fox Magnus, and Draco Maximane can save the front
lines from collapse. But while the fate of the Allied advance hangs
in the balance, ArcBrigadier Patrick Conroy is damned by the tides
of war, forcing ArcGeneral Sarah Manchester and the renegade
Freetown privateers to make hard decisions...
The first novel in the Equations series: The human race was driven
from the Earth in the mid-twenty first century, by an intelligent
bio-weapon called Omega. Seven hundred years later, humanity's
descendants return to Earth on a Quest fueled by a false religion,
determined to reclaim their home. But since humanity's departure,
Earth has come under the protection of a new race: wolves, cats and
bears that were mutated into humanoid form by the bio-weapon before
it vanished. These Earthers are better than humans in every
conceivable way; they are too good to be true. And having learned
from the wreckage of humanity's past, they are wary of humanity's
return. Led by First Lord Setter Caine, these wise and idealistic
beings must protect their home against human fanaticism...
The second novel in the Equations series: Earth is safely in the
hands of the Earthers, but the adopted human homeworld of Genesis
remains under the destructive rule of the Church. Admiral Andra
Ursla, at the head of a newly reconstructed fleet, must help the
humans break free of this arcane rule, and liberate their home from
alien influence. The universe, however, is not at peace, and
Genesis has become the latest battlefield in a centuries-old war
between two alien races: the feudal Larosians, and the animalistic
Kroggs. Led by Ursla, and with the help of officers like Admiral
Savanna Felix, and maverick sloop commander Fox Magnus, the
Earthers must find a way to fulfill their commitment to humanity...
and perhaps, to take on a decisive role in a massive conflict that
will shape the fate of the galaxy.
The adventure, romance, and war continues through four more books
in 2232: Chase Into Blackness. Covering the second year of the
Martian War, this omnibus follows Ken Barron and his comrades Karen
McMaster and Charlie Peters on their infamous mission to Jupiter.
Over the course of four books, Barron and his 'Jupiter Force' are
assembled and sent on the months-long cruise to the outer planet,
to relieve the isolated (and largely redundant) colony on Io. Rife
with ship battles, duels between special forces, brutal traps, and
moments of profound personal loss, this mission left an indelible
mark on the elite of Defense Command. Once again narrating, Ken
Barron spares none of the potentially damaging details, and misses
no opportunity to find the humor -- however grim -- in this first
full year of hostilities between Earth and Mars.
Covering the third year of the Martian War, 2233: Reap The
Whirlwind follows Ken Barron, Karen McMaster, Charlie Peters and
their comrades through more adventure, romance, and combat.
Beginning with a stop at Pion Rock, one of the most horrible and
sensationalized places in the solar system, the omnibus moves on to
three books that cover some of the most significant engagements of
the Martian War: the battle for the base at the Forge, the assault
on Mercury, and the Fleet Clash. With Ken Barron narrating in his
usual caustic style, this volume brings readers to the end of
hostilities with Mars, and sets up the year of political intrigue
and chaos that follows in 2234.
The eighth and final novel in the Equations series: The Earthers
have been defeated at almost every turn. Omega, the sentient plague
that created their race, is simply too powerful to overcome. With
help from old friends and former enemies, the Earthers have been
able to briefly delay his advances, but now, at last, he is making
his move against Earth. Omega's fleet numbers in the thousands, and
his impossibly large invasion force includes billions of minions.
He simply cannot be stopped. The Earthers' only hope is 'the plan',
an ambitious gambit devised by Supreme Consul Setter Caine in hopes
of cheating the plague of total victory. Omega can overpower any
force in the universe. Even with the help of their allies, the
Earthers cannot defeat him... but they are willing to die trying.
The sixth novel in the Equations series: The galaxy reels from the
shocking return of Omega. Genesis is gone, the haggard remnants of
its human civilization barely escaping infection and slavery at the
hands of the mutated, sentient plague. Freetown, Gibraltar, New
Halifax, Krogg 'A', and Earth must now desperately prepare to
defend themselves, while Elandra Caine seeks a cure. The key to
that cure might be aboard ENS Renown, but that vessel is trapped
outside the Earth Galaxy, and is being chased by Omega's ships.
Newly-appointed Supreme Consul Setter Caine finds the situation
grim. Omega is the supposed 'God' of the Earthers, and by studying
the Krogg War, he has learned much about the way his creations make
war. He intends to use this knowledge to gain his revenge...
An omnibus including the first four books in the Defense Command
series, 2231: Mars Against Empire covers the outset of the Martian
War. Earth's former colonists on Mars have built their 'Imperium',
and now choose to launch a war against the Earth Empire for
dominance of the solar system. In the process, they run head-first
into the women and men of Defense Command. But even as the first
shots are fired, political instability is taking root in the
Empire, with the Emperor and the Parliament struggling for
dominance. The Egesta crisis is also beginning, and that debacle
will draw Defense Command into the worst peacekeeping disaster in
Imperial history. It is thus a very complicated year, and narrating
these stories, then-Commodore Ken Barron pulls no punches. With is
wry (often lame) sense of humor, he candidly recounts the
adventure, the romance, and the pain, producing what many feel is
the definitive account of the period.
The fourth novel in the Equations series: Victory for the Allies is
finally at hand. After two years of war, and millions of lives
lost, the Kroggs have fallen back to their home systems, where they
now make a desperate stand. With the combined forces of the
Earthers, the humans, and the Larosians taking part in this siege,
victory for the Allies seems inevitable. But faced with possible
extermination, the Kroggs become a more cunning foe than ever
before, and their deceptions may undo all of the successes earned
so far... Now it falls to Setter Caine, Andra Ursla, Savanna Felix,
Andros Grieve, and all the Earther warriors to find a way to
victory. They must outwit the defenses put in place by the clever
Krogg Queen, and make whatever sacrifices are necessary to bring an
end to the war, once and for all.
