and workplace violence, specifically sexual misconduct, and offers
best practices for organizations seeking to prevent and respond to
sexual misconduct. Based on an idea conceived at a conference for
the International Coalition of Sexual Harassment, this book offers
up-to-date information about sexual harassment and other forms of
sexual misconduct in academic and workplace settings, as well as
legal and guidance updates and best practices that discuss
prevention methods. The chapters are written by noted attorneys,
campus and workplace consultants, and other scholars who have
assisted in collecting incident data and have thought leadership to
offer. Chapters address how workplaces and campuses respond to
forms of violence as well as the impact of sexual harassment on
individuals, bystanders, and organizations. Readers will learn
about topics such as the "Not Alone" initiative-a result of
President Obama's Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual
Assault-and the history of Titles VII and IX legislation the United
States. The editors have compiled resources that address the
cultural and social views of sexual harassment, the history of

This book is written by a diverse cohort of American educators,
including professors, teachers, and school administrators from
pre-K to college levels. They come from disciplinary areas of child
development, special education, English as a second language,
counseling, technology, school administration, educational
psychology, educational measurement and testing, as well as
mathematics education. The chapters explore various topics, ranging
from standardized testing, roles of central office, teacher
evaluation, teacher professional development, gender differences,
diversity, student engagement and parental involvement, student
services provided at school, use of technology with teacher and
students' perspectives of technology use, self-efficacy beliefs, to
teacher's perspectives of play in early childhood settings. While
the chapters reflect diverse conceptual and theoretical
orientation, disciplinary focus, methodological emphasis, writing
styles, and educational implications, they add together to present
a more holistic picture of Chinese education across disciplinary
areas. Taken together, these chapters reveal salient similarities
and differences in theoretical underpinnings, pedagogical
principles and classroom practices in China and in the United
States. They also shed light on some of the larger
conceptual/theoretical orientations between learning and learners
in the two countries. They debunk some common misconceptions of
education in the two countries as well. Since many chapters are
written by American authors that reflect directly on their study
abroad experiences in China, this allows fresh insight that helps
to transform the view that these countries learning from one
another would be a challenge into the realization that learning
from one another is not only invaluable but also essential.
In Collaboration with Consulting Editor, Dr. Jan Foster, Drs.

critical care nursing provide current updates on sepsis care and
management. Authors have written clinical reviews on the following
topics: International Sepsis Guidelines 2016; Pros and Cons of
Early Administration of Intravenous Fluids; PTSD After ICU Stay;
Role of Vitamin C and Carbon Monoxide in Sepsis; Neonatal Sepsis;
Use of Etomidate in the Septic Patient; Simulation to Manage the
Septic Patient in the ICU; Cardiogenic Shock Complicating Sepsis
management; Hospital Costs associated with Sepsis Compared to other
Medical Conditions; Special Considerations for the Septic Patient
Going to the Operating Room; Management of the Septic Patient in
the Emergency Room; and Management of Sepsis in the Obstetrical
Patient. Reader will come away with the information they need to
improve patient outcomes.
Organizational Culture provides a sweeping interdisciplinary overview of the organizational culture literature, showing how and why researchers have disagreed about such fundamental questions as: What is organizational culture? What are the major theoretical perspectives used to understand cultures in organizations? How can a researcher decipher the political interests inherent in research that claims to be political neutral -- merely "descriptive"? Expert author Joanne Martin examines a variety of conflicting ways to study cultures in organizations, including different theoretical orientations, political ideologies (managerial, critical, and apparently neutral); methods (qualitative, quantitative, and hybrid approaches), and styles of writing about culture (ranging from traditional to postmodern and experimental). In addition, she offers a guide for those who might want to study culture themselves, addressing such issues as: What qualitative, quantitative, and hybrid methods can be used to study culture? What standards are used when reviewers evaluate these various types of research? What innovative ways of writing about culture have been introduced? And finally, what are the most important unanswered questions for future organizational culture researchers? Intended for graduate students and established scholars who need to understand, value, and utilize highly divergent approaches to the study of culture. The book will also be useful for researchers who do not study culture, but who are interested in the ways political interests affect scholarly writing, the ways critical and managerial approaches to theory differ, the use and justification of qualitative methods in domains where quantitative methods are the norm.

Peptides and Proteins as Biomaterials for Tissue Regeneration and
Repair highlights the various important considerations that go into
biomaterial development, both in terms of fundamentals and
applications. After covering a general introduction to protein and
cell interactions with biomaterials, the book discusses proteins in
biomaterials that mimic the extracellular matrix (ECM). The
properties, fabrication and application of peptide biomaterials and
protein-based biomaterials are discussed in addition to in vivo and
in vitro studies. This book is a valuable resource for researchers,
scientists and advanced students interested in biomaterials
science, chemistry, molecular biology and nanotechnology.
This volume will examine the varied roles that women and children
play in period of warfare, which in most cases deviate from their
perceived role as noncombatants. Using social theory about the
nature of sex, gender and age in thinking about vulnerabilities to
different groups during warfare, this collection of studies focuses
on the broader impacts of war both during warfare but also long
after the conflict is over. The volume will show that during
periods of violence and warfare, many suffer beyond those
individuals directly involved in battle. From pre-Hispanic Peru to
Ming dynasty Mongolia to the Civil War-era United States to the
present, warfare has been and is a public health disaster,
particularly for women and children. Individuals and populations
suffer from displacement, sometimes permanently, due to loss of
food and resources and an increased risk of contracting
communicable diseases, which results from the poor conditions and
tight spaces present in most refugee camps, ancient and modern.
Bioarchaeology can provide a more nuanced lens through which to
examine the effects of warfare on life, morbidity, and mortality,
bringing individuals not traditionally considered by studies of
warfare and prolonged violence into focus. Inclusion of these
groups in discussions of warfare can increase our understanding of
not only the biological but also the social meaning and costs of
warfare.
This book explores the long history of oppression and resistance in
adult and higher education, situated in Mississippi. The state
serves as a unique site in which intersecting narratives around
race, ethnicity, social class, opportunity, democracy, and equity
have played out over the past several decades. In this book, the
authors highlight the experiences of students and adults in
Mississippi who provide both covert, subtle resistance to the
dominant, oppressive educational narrative in the state, as well as
those who provide active, visible resistance. Using critical
pedagogy and critical theory to drive their analysis, the authors
highlight the systematic and continuous nature of oppression, and
theorize ways forward toward liberation in Mississippi, the South,
and the nation.
