This book introduces a unique, packet-based co-design control
framework for networked control systems. It begins by providing a
comprehensive survey of state-of-the-art research on networked
control systems, giving readers a general overview of the field. It
then verifies the proposed control framework both theoretically and
experimentally - the former using multiple control methodologies,
and the latter using a unique online test rig for networked control
systems. The framework investigates in detail the most common,
communication constraints, including network-induced delays, data
packet dropout, data packet disorders, and network access
constraints, as well as multiple controller design and system
analysis tools such as model predictive control, linear matrix
inequalities and optimal control. This unique and complete
co-design framework greatly benefits researchers, graduate students
and engineers in the fields of control theory and engineering.
This book covers the state-of-the-art technologies for positioning
with nanometer resolutions and accuracies, particularly those based
on piezoelectric actuators and MEMS actuators. The latest advances
are described, including the design of nanopositioning devices,
sensing and actuation technologies and control methods for
nanopositioning. This is an ideal book for mechanical and
electrical engineering students and researchers; micro and
nanotechnology researchers and graduate students; as well as those
working in the precision instrumentation or semiconductor
industries.

This book addresses the emerging paradigm of data-driven
engineering design. In the big-data era, data is becoming a
strategic asset for global manufacturers. This book shows how the
power of data can be leveraged to drive the engineering design
process, in particular, the early-stage design. Based on novel
combinations of standing design methodology and the emerging data
science, the book presents a collection of theoretically sound and
practically viable design frameworks, which are intended to address
a variety of critical design activities including conceptual
design, complexity management, smart customization, smart product
design, product service integration, and so forth. In addition, it
includes a number of detailed case studies to showcase the
application of data-driven engineering design. The book concludes
with a set of promising research questions that warrant further
investigation. Given its scope, the book will appeal to a broad
readership, including postgraduate students, researchers,
lecturers, and practitioners in the field of engineering design.

This book highlights the preparation and characterization of
efficient electromagnetic shielding composites containing
bio-carbon derived from natural loofah with unique
three-dimensional porous structures by means of entire structure
design of composites according to shielding theory. The synergistic
effect of multifunctional nanoparticles and bio-carbon on
electromagnetic shielding mechanism, mechanical performance, and
thermal stability of composites obtained has been holistically
investigated. The discovery of this renewable, environmentally
friendly, and inexpensive bio-carbon represents a new class of
conductive materials with multi-interfaces and unravels further
research and development of a wide variety of new electromagnetic
shielding material systems with potential commercial applications
ranging from electronic devices to energy management.

Micro and Nano Systems for Biophysical Studies of Cells and Small
Organisms provides a comprehensive introduction to the
state-of-the-art micro and nano systems that have recently been
developed and applied to biophysical studies of cells and small
organisms. These micro and nano systems span from
microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) and microfluidic devices to
robotic micro-nanomanipulation systems. These biophysical studies
range from cell mechanics to the neural science of worms and
Drosophila. This book will help readers understand the fundamentals
surrounding the development of these tools and teach them the most
recent advances in cellular and organismal biophysics enabled by
these technologies.
A lavishly illustrated book that offers an in-depth look at the
cultural practices surrounding the tradition of collecting ancient
bronzes in China during the 18th and 19th centuries In ancient
China (2000-221 b.c.) elaborate bronze vessels were used for
rituals involving cooking, drinking, and serving food. This
fascinating book not only examines the cultural practices
surrounding these objects in their original context, but it also
provides the first in-depth study tracing the tradition of
collecting these bronzes in China. Essays by international experts
delve into the concerns of the specialized culture that developed
around the vessels and the significant influence this culture, with
its emphasis on the concept of antiquity, had on broader Chinese
society. While focusing especially on bronze collections of the
18th and 19th centuries, this wide-ranging catalogue also touches
on the ways in which contemporary artists continue to respond to
the complex legacy of these objects. Packed with stunning
photographs of exquisitely crafted vessels, Mirroring China's Past
is an enlightening investigation into how the role of ancient
bronzes has evolved throughout Chinese history. Distributed for the

With the rapid growth of third-party logistics (3PL) in the global
logistics industry, it is possible that certain activities and
processes relating to logistics may be competitively advantageous
as well as good candidates for outsourcing. It is important to gain
further insight into customers intention of third-party logistics
services (3PLS) and third-party logistics information systems
(3PLIS). However, a very little academic literature exists on how
to best utilize this new and budding arena for Chinese logistics
service industry. This book, therefore, provides a new metric of
success for Chinese third-party logistics service industry,
focusing on customers intention of 3PLS and 3PLIS. This research
provides theoretical foundation for academics and also practical
guidelines for logistics service providers. The analysis should be
especially useful to professionals in logistics marketing fields.
