What is sandplay? Can it help adults as well as children?
Originally published in 1992, the late Joel Ryce-Menuhin, leading
exponent of sandplay, gives an engaging account of this
increasingly popular Jungian therapy, drawing on his own wide
experience of using sandplay with patients of all ages and
backgrounds. He shows how it can help patients to express 'beyond
words and before words' the deepest archetypal images from the
unconscious, and how effective sandplay can be in the healing of
pathology, neurosis and grief. A former concert pianist, who became
a Jungian analyst, he was the first to introduce Jungian sandplay
therapy to Britain.
"Jung and the Monotheisms" brings together a range of scholars to
provide an exploration of some of the essential aspects of Judaism,
Christianity and Islam. The contributors include leading Jungian
analysts and scholars, among them Baroness Vera von der Heydt, Ann
Belford Ulanov and Murray Stein. They bring to bear psychological,
religious and historical perspectives in an attempt to uncover the
nature and psychology of the three monotheisms. The text provides a
fresh and profound source of interpretation and comparison of Islam
within the western psyche. The editor, Jungian analyst Joel
Ryce-Menuhin, is especially concerned to bring both the essential
and comparative elements of the religious psychology of Islam to
the attention of the contemporary reader and to provide a forum for
an increased dialogue between the three monotheisms.

This lively and highly informative contribution to the Menuhin
Music Guides covers all aspects of percussion - the instruments,
the percussion section within the orchestra and the use of
percussion in chamber music and as a solo instrument. James Holland
is not afraid to attack composers, conductors and music publishers
as he puts the percussionist's point of view. Among his comments on
how to interpret a percussion score and lay out and play a vast
array of complex instruments are detailed analyses of Walton's
'Facade' and works by Gerhard and Stockhausen.

Yehudi Menuhin shares with the reader his unique store of
understanding about the violin, about how to exercise and practise,
about the techniques of performance. His reflections on the nature
and scope of his instrument are profoundly illuminating and his
theories on interpretation particularly valuable. A section on the
violinist as teacher/student contains a fascinating transcript of a
lesson with Yehudi Menuhin, who also writes separately about the
violinist as orchestral player, leader, chamber music player,
recitalist and soloist. William Primrose writes the distinguished
monograph on the viola and describes the instrument as 'a violin
with a college education'. He was an acknowledged technical master
of the viola who, along with Lionel Tertis, was one of the finest
exponents of this beautiful instrument of the 20th century. Denis
Stevens, the British musicologist and specialist in early music,
provides and interesting chapter on the history of the violin and
looks in detail at the monumental challenge that is Bach's Six
Solos for Violin without Bass Accompaniment better known as the
Sonatas and Partitas for Violin.

Talking about sex, while no longer taboo, does not always add to
our insight or deepen our understanding of it. In this frank and
honest airing of male sexuality, Jungian analyst Joel Ryce-Menuhin
presents a rare comprehension of the male experience gathered from
over twenty years of working with male clients. By presenting male
sexuality along with its psychological and spiritual issues, his
work adds to our understanding of men today. In Naked and Erect,
the author uses his Jungian perspective to discuss the alchemy of
male masturbation, the anima in homosexuality and bisexuality, the
archetypal problems of fathering, and the psyche at midlife and the
approach of death.
