Salivary endoscopy and lithotripsy are completely new, and rapidly emerging medical fields for the United States and North America. Salivary endoscopy is now mainly known in Europe, having been utilized there since the early 1990s. Sialendoscopy can be either a diagnostic or interventional procedure. As a treatment, sialendoscopy is used for blocked salivary glands and is branching out for diagnosis in terms of ductal pathology and treatment of other conditions as well. Diagnostic sialendoscopy can replace most of the radiological examinations of the salivary ductal system. Lithotripsy is used therapeutically for salivary stones. Entrepreneurship in the Region approaches many different aspects of entrepreneurship from a regional perspective. The regional influences on entrepreneurship analyzed entail regional peculiarities and disparities in new business formation processes, the success and the employment effects of new firms, the importance of social capital and of network structures as well as entrepreneurship education and training provided in the regions. The articles in this book provide strong evidence for the importance of regional factors that shape entrepreneurship and new firm formation processes. It is shown that regional differences of start-up rates and entrepreneurial attitudes are not at all elusive but tend to be rather persistent and prevail over longer periods of time. The evidence clearly suggests that the regional level can be an appropriate starting point for entrepreneurship policy and that research on the issue may considerably benefit from properly accounting for the spatial dimension.

Integration of the Central and Eastern European Countries (CEECs) into the European Union (EU) has become more a question of timing than a question whether it will or should be made. Since one of the objectives of the EU is to establish a system ensuring competition in the internal market is not distorted the question arises if the CEECs can be integrated into such a competitive system. Which rules of competition are appropriate to improve the economic integration of the CEECs and to promote at the same time the enduring transition process? The relationship between competition policy and East-West integration is the general theme of the contributions in this book. One central issue of this volume is the way of integrating the Central and East European countries into the EU and supporting their development by liberalizing trade with the EU. A second issue is the implementation of a market economy in the post-socialist countries of Eastern Europe and in particular the aspect of implementing competition rules at a time when markets are just emerging. Politik und andere Akteure in den (vor allem ostdeutschen) Regionen stehen vor der Aufgabe, den demografischen Wandel zu gestalten. Diplomarbeit aus dem Jahr 1995 im Fachbereich BWL - Controlling, Freie Universitat Berlin (Wirtschaftswissenschaft, Produktion, Wirtschaftsinformatik, Operations Research), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Inhaltsangabe: Problemstellung: Bis Ende der 70er Jahre wandelten sich die Markte im Konsum- und Investitionsgutersektor von Produzenten- zu Konsumentenmarkten. Die Qualitat eines Produktes wurde zu einem wettbewerbsentscheidenden Faktor. 1958 stellte Armand V. Feigenbaums General Systems Company bei Meinungsumfragen auf dem nordamerikanischen Konsum- und Investitionsgutermarkt fest, dass 80 % der Befragten angaben, die Qualitat eines Produktes sei mindestens genauso wichtig oder wichtiger als der Preis. 1979 gaben nur 30% an, dass die Qualitat fur die Kaufentscheidung ausschlaggebend gewesen war. In Japan wurde die veranderte Praferenzstruktur der Konsumenten sehr viel fruher erkannt als in den westlichen Industrienationen. Die japanischen Unternehmen entwickelten Programme, wie z.B. "Total Quality Control," um die Qualitat ihrer Produkte zu verbessern. Abb. 1 vergleicht die Qualitatszuwachse der japanischen und westlichen Unternehmen seit 1950. Die japanischen Erfolge im Qualitatsmanagement widerlegten das Vorurteil, dass eine hohere Produktqualitat mit hoheren Kosten verbunden ist. GARVIN vertritt die Auffassung, dass zwischen Qualitat und Kosten folgende Wechselwirkung besteht: the more quality, the higher productivity, the lower cost. "In fact," stellt GARVIN fest, "the total costs of quality incurred by Japanese producers were less than one half the failure costs incurred by best U.S. companies." Die Unternehmen mussen sich den neuen Anforderungen des Marktes anpassen, wenn sie ihre internationale Wettbewerbsfahigkeit nicht einbussen wollen.
