This text aims to provide a tool for clinicians who are charged with finding ways to interrupt often overwhelming patterns of destructive behaviour. A complilation of multidisciplinary techniques grounded in theoretical foundations, this volume offers flexible strategies to accomplish 14 major therapeutic tasks, from which the practitioner can choose depending on his or her own theoretical approach, style, and specific situation. The techniques presented reflect the authors' firm belief that therapy typically works best when it emphasizes the positive by focusing on strengths, thereby fostering the development of constructive attitudes and behaviours. In addition to discussion of particular therapeutic task, a general integrative model for behaviour change is provided.
