This collection presents selected papers from the Fourth Annual
Global Conference on Entrepreneurial Research, held in 1994 at
INSEAD, France. Covering a wide selection of themes, methodological
approaches and organization types, the papers cover all aspects of
current entrepreneurship theory in economics, organizational
sociology, marketing, leadership and finance. Other issues
discussed include gender and networking, strategies in
entrepreneurial growth, job satisfaction and franchising. Case
studies highlight specific examples of entrepreneurship around the
world, including the reform of state-owned enterprises in China and
Vietnam, regional business creation in Quebec and the Italian
tannery industry.
A constant growth of new small firms is an important part of a healthy economy, yet little is known about the factors which determine success or failure in a small business. Success is concerned not only with the development of a product and its market but, more importantly, with the individual behind it. There are very few completely new ideas or products to guarantee success; therefore, the person seeking to start their own business must assemble customers and resources themselves before they start trading. The cases outlined here are all based on actual experience, and explore the issues and problems facing would-be entrepreneurs. They offer step-by-step advice on the processes involved in starting a small business and demonstrate the wide range of business opportunities available. First published in 1982, this is a detailed and practical guide, particularly applicable to those who find the idea of establishing a small business of their own appealing.

There were vultures circling above us and I was told to keep moving in case they thought I was dead... Travels with a Brompton is a sparkling narrative about the adventures of an English couple and their folding bicycles over nearly 30 years of exploring France. This is a wine-fuelled account of sweaty pedalling and hard-earned freewheeling via cols, war memorials, lavender fields, and vineyards. It is a travel guide for those who long for two-wheeled trips in France and a lively read for the armchair traveller who chooses sofa over saddle. The author's Brompton, Modestine, is a descendant of the donkey Robert Louis Stevenson took on his travels in the Cévennes.
