The experimental teaching of materials science and engineering
(MSE) is important because the comprehensive applications and the
practical knowledge of the professionals are not only an important
way for undergraduate students to grasp the knowledge but also to
understand the purpose of the study. In order to cultivate
students' ability to solve complex engineering problems, more
comprehensive experiments should be designed.Besides the essential
basic experiments in the first few chapters, most of the
experiments designed in this book are comprehensive, hence the
title. This book breaks the boundaries in the experimental courses
of MSE. The experiments in this book are modularized into five
parts, including preliminary exploration of materials science and
engineering, fundamentals of chemistry and crystallography,
material properties, material preparation and treatment, and
material applications. Besides the experiments, the appendices will
describe the most relevant aspects of experimental safety, error,
and data presentation in a general way. The contents and
requirements of the experimental report are suggested. At the end
of each chapter, a list of books, journal articles, and websites is
provided for extended reading on the topics covered in the
chapter. This book covers the main contents of experimental courses
of MSE. The experiments cover the forefront of scientific research
and the materials industry with appropriate modification. It
intends to serve as a textbook for undergraduate students and aims
to help teachers find a wide enough variety of experiments to
construct in an experimental course.
This book focuses on charged-particle optics and microscopy, as
well as their applications in the materials sciences. Presenting a
range of cutting-edge theoretical and methodological advances in
electron microscopy and microanalysis, and examining their crucial
roles in modern materials research, it offers a unique resource for
all researchers who work in ultramicroscopy and/or materials
research. The book addresses the growing opportunities in this
field and introduces readers to the state of the art in
charged-particle microscopy techniques. It showcases recent
advances in scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron
microscopy and helium ion microscopy, including advanced
spectroscopy, spherical-corrected microscopy, focused-ion imaging
and in-situ microscopy. Covering these and other essential topics,
the book is intended to facilitate the development of microscopy
techniques, inspire young researchers, and make a valuable
contribution to the field.
This book combines the experience and achievements in engineering
practice of the China Academy of Space Technology, Xi’an, with a
focus on the field of high-power multipactor over recent decades.
It introduces the main concepts, theories, methods and latest
technologies of multipactor simulation, at both the theoretical
level and as a process of engineering, while providing a
comprehensive introduction to the outstanding progress made in the
research technology of multipactor numerical simulation in China.
At the same time, a three-dimensional numerical simulation method
of multipactor for typical high-power microwave components of
spacecraft is introduced. This book is an essential volume for
engineers in the field of high-power microwave technology. It can
also be used as a reference for researchers in related fields, or
as a teaching reference book for graduate students majoring in
Astronautics at colleges and universities.

Together with the noted Tang dynasty tales, Song dynasty tales have
long been highly valued and widely read in the Chinese world. As
the first English translations of a selected collection of 12 Song
dynasty tales, this book opens a window into the world of
literature, culture, and the colorful lives of the royal house and
common people in the 10th- to 13th-centuries. In addition to the
translation and meticulous annotations, it offers a general
introduction as well as commentaries on each tale.
How can cognition, a concept traditionally associated with the
human brain, be applied to satellite systems? For the first time,
cognitive system meanings and models are applied to the uncertain
environmental processes of satellite systems. The authors of this
book go beyond defining 'cognitive satellite systems' to design a
cognitive satellite communication system architecture with
satellite-to-ground coordination, which has uses in emergency
response spacecraft and prediction technology. In this book, the
optimal utilization of cognitive satellite system resources is
discussed in four aspects:

In architecture, as in many fields, the best method of learning is
to learn from the experts. Here, the author, using modern drawing
software, has redrawn the plans, elevations, sections, and
axonometric drawings from 138 architectural works by the renowned
Louis I. Kahn, one of the most important architects of the 20th
century in the United States. In so doing, the author arrives at a
new and objective perspective to understanding Kahn and his work,
creating an invaluable resource for future study. By working
through and observing the sketches in a chronological order, Kahn's
spatial characteristics and variations can be seen in a holistic
way. This book provides an innovative and intimate new look at Kahn
and his architectural work.
This book helps to solve the problems and challenges of satellite
sensing in the current environment of increasing communications
bandwidths and multiplicity of electromagnetic signals. It presents
technology that makes full use of the broadband low-loss advantages
of optoelectronic technology and research into new broadband
radio-frequency channelization and receiving technology based on
photoelectric sensing. The methods presented allow improvements in
system performance in terms of receiving bandwidth,
frequency-sensing accuracy, channel equalization, adjacent channel
crosstalk, dynamic range, and complexity of the system structure.
In addressing the difficulty of satellite spectrum control,
including the issue of high-precision and real-time wide-spectrum
sensing not being able to be obtained simultaneously, the book
solves the problem of accurate and parallel-decomposition sensing
technology using the dual-phase optical frequency comb. This method
avoids the involvement of fine filtering and does not require fine
alignment between the source and the filter but achieves high
perceptual accuracy. Satellite Photoelectric Sensing Technology
explores the research background, significance, and current
challenges associated with the technology, making it relevant and
interesting to academics, practitioners, and postgraduate students
in this field.

International Conference on Data Science, ICDS 2015, held in
Sydney, Australia, during August 8-9, 2015. The 19 revised full
papers and 5 short papers presented were carefully reviewed and
selected from 31 submissions. The papers focus on the following
topics: mathematical issues in data science; big data issues and
applications; data quality and data preparation; data-driven
scientific research; evaluation and measurement in data service;
big data mining and knowledge management; case study of data
science; social impacts of data science.
Christian missionaries in China have been viewed as agents of
Western imperialist values. Yang Huilin, leading scholar of
Sino-Christian studies, has dedicated himself to re-evaluating the
history of Christianity in China and sifting through intellectual
and religious results of missionary efforts in China. Yang focuses
upon local histories of Christianity to chronicle its enduring
good. China, Christianity, and the Question of Culture illuminates
the unexplored links between Christianity and Chinese culture, from
Christianity and higher education in China to the rural
acculturation of Christian ideology by indigenous communities. In a
distinctly Chinese voice, Yang presents the legacy of Western
missionaries in a new light, contributing greatly to now vigorous
Sino-Christian theology.
