Books > Christianity > Christian life & practice
This is a short book focussing on the relationship between theology
and prayer, and their effects on a Christian's life. It sets the
reader tasks of self-examination and reflection in the light of
Christian teaching.
Battered and abused as a child, my life for fifty two years was
sex, drugs and violence. Motorcycles were my life and the clubs my
family. So what changed and why? On a mountain in America in 2003
God did the impossible just to show me that for Him there is no
such thing as the impossible. I am alive today because of what He
did, because He saved my life and my soul that day. This year my
wife and I are moving to India, in faith following His word. This
is my story, some of my life so far. I hope you enjoy reading this
account and I pray that it may help someone avoid some of the
mistakes I made, and perhaps come to our Saviour sooner than I did.
"Jesus only is our message"; this line from an old hymn is at the
heart of Michael Dada's message. In this short book he sets out to
explain exactly who Jesus is, and what he can do for us. He brings
light and peace and healing. He brings life. Using Scripture
passages from the traditional King James Version, this book
contains the authentic voice of a man who is passionate about his
Lord, and what he believes his Lord can do for you!
Words of Caution for Those Who Think They're Beyond Temptation Too
many Christians, especially those in ministry, believe they are
untouchable--that they're too faithful to fall or too spiritual to
give in to temptation. They deny any sort of weakness, fail to draw
proper boundaries, and end up doing the very things they swore
they'd never do. Pastor and author Brittany Rust was one such
person--until she found herself in the middle of moral failure and
a church-wide scandal. Bewildered, humiliated, and ashamed, she
thought she was beyond redemption. But God's grace met her on the
ground, and here she shares what she's learned through her painful
journey. She unravels the myth of being untouchable, showing how we
start to believe the lie, and how we can protect ourselves from
temptation. Ultimately she shows that to truly flourish in life,
you must be willing to admit weakness--and that no one is beyond
God's redeeming love.

Do you really know the Holy Spirit? And what does the answer mean for
your faith?
In The Familiar Stranger, Tyler Staton draws on Scripture, tradition,
and spiritual practices to help you step into a genuine relationship
with the Holy Spirit and discover a fully alive spirituality.
For a generation searching desperately for an experiential
spirituality, there's good news: the Holy Spirit's indwelling presence
to empower and transform is freely available. Yet, confusion and
unfamiliarity surround the Holy Spirit, leading too many Christians
either to sideline him or misunderstand what he means for their
spiritual lives.
In The Familiar Stranger, Staton reintroduces this oft-neglected person
of the Trinity, tracing the story of the Holy Spirit as it unfolds
throughout the Bible, and inviting believers to close the gap between
what Scripture reveals about the Holy Spirit and their lived
experience. Along the way, readers will:
- dig into key biblical images and metaphors that reveal the Holy
Spirit's nature, roles, and personality;
- learn about common misperceptions that keep believers and churches
from experiencing the fullness of the Holy Spirit's power and presence;
- discover how the Spirit brings discernment and access to miraculous
power to partner with God in the work he's doing in the world;
- reckon with the indispensable role of spiritual experience for
walking with God; andunderstand how both Word and Spirit work together
to draw people into a vibrant, intimate knowledge of God.
The Familiar Stranger will challenge, inform, and encourage believers
from every background to become more deeply acquainted with the Person
and work of the Holy Spirit - and experience his transformative,
life-giving power in their lives.

If you feel your faith in God could do with a boost then this is
the book for you. It will show you that God responds when we have
faith in Him and in His word
Joan Chittister's powerful spiritual guide builds on the ancient
Rule of Benedict to show us how to live this life, our daily life,
well. 'The monastic archetype is embedded in every soul - because
in our true centre we are all "truly seeking God" Joan Chittister
understands and communicates this to her contemporaries with rare
insight and power' Laurence Freeman, author of The Selfless Self '
. . . the allure of this book is its promise that "the monastery of
the heart" is where we learn to live our lives "from the inside
out" in a contemporary world that is spiritually bereft and
bewildering' Ephrem Hollermann, author of The Reshaping of a
Tradition 'This marvel of a book sings in the heart and makes the
mind quiet with reverence, even as it instructs both of them with a
holy gladness' Phyllis Tickle, compiler of The Divine Hours.
'A rare and personal glimpse of the sacrificial discipleship that
marked John Stott's life so deeply.'Peter Harris What is a life of
radical discipleship? At root, it means we let Jesus set the agenda
of our lives. We aren't selective. We don't pick and choose what is
cosy and stay away from what is costly. He is Lord of all of life.
In the last book by a Christian leader who was himself a radical
disciple, John Stott opens up what it means at root to be a
follower of Jesus. He explores eight aspects of Christian
discipleship that we need to pay much closer attention to. The
message is simple, classic and personal: Jesus is Lord. He calls.
We follow.
