Commissioned in 1975 by Thomas Nelson, 130 international and
multi-denominational Bible scholars, church leaders, and lay
Christians worked for seven years to create a completely new,
modern translation of Scripture that retained the purity and
stylistic beauty of the King James Version. The New King James
Version is faithful to the original Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic
text, and provides transparency to the recent research in
archaeology, linguistics, and textual studies in the footnotes. The
result is a Bible translation that is both beautiful and
uncompromising-perfect for serious study, devotional use, and
reading aloud.
"Fasting" has been called the forgotten spiritual discipline.
Although it is found throughout Scripture, it is often neglected by
modern Christians. Is there power in fasting? Does it really make a
difference? How does fasting relate to prayer? In this study,
Ashlee Alley considers the biblical basis for fasting and explores
ways modern Christians can make this ancient discipline part of
their faith walk. "Converge Bible Studies" is a series of topical
Bible studies based on the "Common English Bible." Each title in
the series consists of four studies on a common topic or theme.
"Converge" can be used by small groups, classes, or individuals.
Primary Scripture passages are included for ease of study, as are
questions designed to encourage both personal reflection and group
conversation. The topics and Scriptures in "Converge" come together
to transform readers relationships with others, themselves, and
God."

The canon for Catholic social teaching spreads to six hundred
pages, yet fewer than two pages are devoted to Catholic social
learning or pedagogy. In this long-needed book, Roger Bergman
begins to correct that gross imbalance. He asks: How do we educate
("lead out") the faith that does justice? How is commitment to
social justice provoked and sustained over a lifetime? To address
these questions, Bergman weaves what he has learned from thirty
years as a faith-that-does-justice educator with the best of
current scholarship and historical authorities. He reflects on
personal experience; the experience of Church leaders, lay
activists, and university students; and the few words the tradition
itself has to say about a pedagogy for justice. Catholic Social
Learning explores the foundations of this pedagogy, demonstrates
its practical applications, and illuminates why and how it is
fundamental to Catholic higher education. Part I identifies
personal encounters with the poor and marginalized as key to
stimulating a hunger and thirst for justice. Part II presents three
applications of Catholic social learning: cross-cultural immersion
as illustrated by Creighton University's Semestre Dominicano
program; community-based service learning; and the teaching of
moral exemplars such as Dorothy Day, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.,
and Archbishop Oscar Romero. Part III then elucidates how a
pedagogy for justice applies to the traditional liberal educational
mission of the Catholic university, and how it can be put into
action. Catholic Social Learning is both a valuable, practical
resource for Christian educators and an important step forward in
the development of a transformative pedagogy.
." . . In Diagramming the Scriptures. . . the curriculum starts
with the simple sentence, adds precept upon precept until the
learner is able to master complex sentences. . . As each concept is
introduced, the student has plenty of practice, followed by
quizzes, and later a cumulative test over the entire text. As an
educator, a homeschool parent, and a tutor I see this curriculum as
an excellent choice for a homeschool, a Christian school classroom,
or for an individual of any age who is interested in studying
grammar or God's Word, word by word." Deana Haines, Families for
Home Education Executive Director ." . .I am quite pleased to
recommend your book to college professors as an excellent addition
to their basic texts in teaching English grammar. . . Since your
examples and exercises utilize Bible sentences, your book is also a
valuable asset to the study of hermeneutics." Jim Anderson,
Chancellor, Midwestern Baptist College, SBC "Diagramming the
Scriptures is a unique way to help focus the Bible student on the
words and meanings of Scripture. I commend Shirley Forsen for
providing this excellent book and recommend it to all who desire to
"go deeper" in their study of God's Word." Dr John A Hash, Bible
Pathway Ministries ." . .I recommend Diagramming the Scriptures to
all scholars to clarify interpretations of all books and to all
teachers of grammar." Glada Kelley, retired teacher and librarian
." . .The best and unique part of Miss Forsen's book is that Bible
verses are used for the examples and exercises. This teaches the
student an important aspect of "rightly dividing the word of
truth": understanding how the structure of the verse influences its
meaning. Diagramming the Scriptures teaches necessary skills, both
educational and spiritual." Laura Blunk, college freshman
In this six-session small group Bible study, pastor and
bestselling author Timothy Keller uses one of Jesus best-loved
parables the Prodigal Son to illustrate the depth of God s love and
how his grace extends into some very unexpected places.
Taking you beyond the traditional focus on the wayward younger
son, Keller helps you glean insights from each of the characters in
Jesus' parable: the irreligious younger son, the moralistic elder
son, and the Father who lavishes his love on both. Inside this
guide, you'll explore questions for group discussion and personal
reflection, and exercises that will help you experience the truths
of Jesus' parable in your own life. The gospel is neither religion
nor irreligion, but something else entirely. Whether you're a
devout believer or a skeptic, The Prodigal God will challenge you
to see Christianity in a whole new way.
This Prodigal God Discussion Guide will help you uncover,
personalize, and apply life-changing insights from The Prodigal God
DVD and book. In six captivating sessions, pastor and New York
Times bestselling author Timothy Keller opens your eyes to the
powerful message of Jesus' best known and least understood parable.
The Prodigal God is a revelation of the very heart of the gospel:
God's radical love for sinners of every kind.
This Discussion Guide is designed for use together with The
Prodigal God DVD and book (both sold separately). Includes
discussion questions for groups and individuals, suggested
resources for further reading, Scripture references, helpful notes

Justin Martyr (c.100-165) was one of the key apologists of the
Early Church. Oxford Early Christian Texts presents a new critical
edition of the Greek text of the Apologies with introduction,
English translation, and textual commentary.
Editors Denis Minns and Paul Parvis take a searching look at the
text transmitted by the single fourteenth-century manuscript
containing the works of Justin. They attempt to see behind the work
of the Byzantine editor, and his predecessors, who sought to make
sense of the badly damaged text before them. The commentary is
designed not merely to annotate the text but to identify and draw
out Justin's train of thought and the structure of his argument. It
explains the readings adopted in the text by setting Justin's Greek
within his Christian, Hellenistic, and philosophical contexts.
The introduction traces the complex history of the text in
manuscript and print and discusses the puzzling relationship of the
Second Apology to the First, and suggests a new solution. Justin is
located against the background of the diversity of Christianity in
the second century. A new understanding of Justin emerges from this
work. His thought is often sharper, and his language more pointed
than has been recognised, and the difficulty of the task he set
himself of bridging the enormous gap between two cultures is
clearly shown.
