Gnosticism is a countercultural spirituality that forever changed
the practice of Christianity. Before it emerged in the second
century, passage to the afterlife required obedience to God and
king. Gnosticism proposed that human beings were manifestations of
the divine, unsettling the hierarchical foundations of the ancient
world. Subversive and revolutionary, Gnostics taught that prayer
and mediation could bring human beings into an ecstatic spiritual
union with a transcendent deity. This mystical strain affected not
just Christianity but many other religions, and it characterizes
our understanding of the purpose and meaning of religion today. In
The Gnostic New Age, April D. DeConick recovers this vibrant
underground history to prove that Gnosticism was not suppressed or
defeated by the Catholic Church long ago, nor was the movement a
fabrication to justify the violent repression of alternative forms
of Christianity. Gnosticism alleviated human suffering, soothing
feelings of existential brokenness and alienation through the
promise of renewal as God. DeConick begins in ancient Egypt and
follows with the rise of Gnosticism in the Middle Ages, the advent
of theosophy and other occult movements in the nineteenth and early
twentieth centuries, and contemporary New Age spiritual
philosophies. As these theories find expression in science-fiction
and fantasy films, DeConick sees evidence of Gnosticism's next
incarnation. Her work emphasizes the universal, countercultural
appeal of a movement that embodies much more than a simple
challenge to religious authority.
Rachel True, an actress best known for her role in The Craft, is a
lifelong occultist - she had been reading tarot cards long before
being cast in the 90s witchy cult classic. Now, True shares her
tarot knowledge through her unique guidebook and deck boxed set.
Each card in the deck is uniquely made following a beautiful,
multicultural aesthetic. True's guidebook helps readers use the
cards as she does: with an intuitive approach, rather than
assigning one literal definition to each card. She shares personal
stories from her experiences in Hollywood to explain how the cards
can mean something different for each person, depending on their
unique set of circumstances. True's stance is that tarot cards
don't predict the future, but rather suggest possible outcomes
based on the reader's present energy.
The irresistible story of two rival mediums in Victorian London…
’Charming, gorgeous, an utter delight’ Marian Keyes Mrs Wood is
London’s most celebrated medium. She’s managed to survive
decades in the competitive world of contacting the Other Side, has
avoided the dreaded slips that revealed others as frauds and is
still hosting packed-out séances for Victorian high society. Yet,
some of her patrons have recently cancelled their appointments.
There are reports of American mediums nearly materialising full
spirits and audiences are no longer satisfied with the knocking on
tables and candle theatrics of years gone by. And then, at one of
Mrs Wood’s routine gatherings, she hears something terrifying –
faint, but unmistakable: a yawn. Mrs Wood needs to spice up her
brand. She decides to take on Emmie, a young protégé, to join her
show. But is Emmie Finch the naïve ingenue she seems to be? Or
does she pose more of a threat to Mrs Wood’s reign and, more
horrifyingly, her reputation than Mrs Wood could ever have
imagined?

By studying intersections among new cults of wealth, ritually
empowered amulets and professional spirit mediumship-which have
emerged together in Thailand's dynamic religious field in recent
decades-Capitalism Magic Thailand explores the conditions under
which global modernity produces new varieties of enchantment. Bruno
Latour's account of modernity as a condition fractured between
rationalizing ideology and hybridizing practice is expanded to
explain the apparent paradox of new forms of magical ritual
emerging alongside religious fundamentalism across a wide range of
Asian societies. In Thailand, novel and increasingly popular
varieties of ritual now form a symbolic complex in which originally
distinct cults centred on Indian deities, Chinese gods and Thai
religious and royal figures have merged in commercial spaces and
media sites to sacralize the market and wealth production. Emerging
within popular culture, this complex of cults of wealth, amulets
and spirit mediumship is supported by all levels of Thai society,
including those at the acme of economic and political power. New
theoretical frameworks are presented in analyses that challenge the
view that magic is a residue of premodernity, placing the dramatic
transformations of cultic ritual centre stage in modern Thai
history. It is concluded that modern enchantment arises at the
confluence of three processes: neoliberal capitalism's production
of occult economies, the auraticizing effects of technologies of
mass mediatization, and the performative force of ritual in
religious fields where practice takes precedence over doctrine.
Now, for the first time, a book reclaims the lost, rich heritage of
working with faery folk that our pagan ancestors took as a matter
of course. Learn to work with and worship with faeries in a
mutually beneficial way. Practice rituals and spells in which
faeries can participate, and discover tips to help facilitate faery
contact. Photos and illustrations.
Discusses why a living person becomes possessed and explains how an
exorcism of a spirit is performed at a distance, not in the
presence of the client.
One thousand years ago, in the valley of Kashmir, a great Tantric
master named Kshemaraja wrote his masterpiece: the
Pratyabhijnahrdayam, which means “The Essence of the Recognition
Philosophy”. This text was a concise primer, written to introduce
spiritual seekers to the Recognition philosophy in less formally
philosophical, more approachable language. What Kshemaraja created
turned out to be one of the world’s great spiritual masterpieces,
breathtaking in its brevity but stunning in its power. It came to
be considered equivalent to scripture itself by later generations,
because of its undeniable inspiration. This book expounds the
subtleties of this spiritual and philosophical classic. One of the
most powerful and revelatory spiritual masterpieces of world
history, the Pratyabhijnahrdayam is one of the primary sources for
the study and practice of nondual Tantrik Yoga, and it has never
been accurately translated or fully explained until now.
When Leah Reinhart was six years old, her family moved to an
unlikely neighborhood on a hill much like the country—a place
where everyone dressed and lived like they were living a real-life
Little House on the Prairie. Yet their new home was in Oakland,
California, and everything surrounding Leah’s neighborhood was
the polar opposite of their old-fashioned lifestyle. As an already
scared little white girl in a predominantly African American city,
Leah quickly learned that would have to face many of her fears—or
get eaten alive. And in her search for love and belonging, she also
found that things aren’t always as they appear. As she got to
know her neighbors, most of whom belonged to the neighborhood
church, she began to realize that the hood was sometimes much safer
than the country. Over the course of her life—learning from the
streets, a cult, trial and error, and many years of therapy—Leah
developed an eye for patterns. She learned how the belief system
she’d absorbed during her childhood manifested in her teenage
years and young adulthood. Ultimately, she learned how to change
her thoughts and accept herself—and in doing so, she broke free
of the cycle she’d been imprisoned by.
Love for the Future: Building One World of Freedom and Democracy
Under God's Truth is a compilation of select international lectures
given by Ryuho Okawa during his (ongoing) global missionary tours.
While conflicting values of justice exists, this book espouses that
freedom and democracy are vital principles for global unification
that will resolutely foster peace and shared prosperity, if adopted
universally. The culminating reason - these principles are based on
a belief in God's Love and that we all contain divine nature
within. Chapter 1 of Part 1 introduces Okawa's lecture and Q&A
session in Germany, held in October 2018. Okawa conveys that the
time is now to liberate all remorseful memories of 20th-century
totalitarianism mired by the acts of the German Reich, and to band
together to stifle the present-day totalitarian-communist
superpower from mercilessly violating human rights and advancing
hegemonism throughout the world. This is a crucial step to
arresting global aggression from escalating into World War III. To
address the global problems that we currently face, Okawa
identifies what God seeks humanity to accomplish in the 21st
century from a historical, political, and ultimately a religious
perspective. Chapter 2 is based on Okawa's 2011 Hong Kong address
and Q&A session. In this lecture, Okawa encouraged the 1.4
billion people of China to strive for freedom-based prosperity and
for the citizens of Hong Kong to champion this crucial movement.
Okawa's insight became the foundation on which the people of Hong
Kong organized their democratization movement the Umbrella
Revolution, which occurred several years later. Chapter 3 is a
transcription of Okawa's 2019 lecture and Q&A session held in
Taiwan. In it, Okawa identifies the three signs of a totalitarian
country and articulates the importance of spreading the principles
of freedom, democracy, and faith from Taiwan to mainland China.
This, he says, is the righteous future in the eyes of God that will
help to bring happiness to the people of mainland China.
Furthermore, Okawa encourages neighboring countries to overcome
past grievances and seek prosperous development based on trust and
adulation. Part 2 reveals the national and global strategies of
four key world leaders: Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin, Angela Merkel,
and Donald Trump. By accessing their hidden consciousnesses,
through his unrivaled spiritual ability, Okawa divulges their true
thoughts and intentions. What they candidly reveal underscores the
importance of understanding and accepting the precepts expressed in
Part 1, to safeguard peace from actions that are influenced by
divisive political maneuverings. The new catalyst for humanity is
to accept the universal spiritual Truths under which we all live:
the inherent dignity of all people; God's Wisdom can resolve global
conflict; God's Love extends to every person, beyond difference of
race, nationality and religious ideology. Through these teachings,
readers will sense from the depths of their souls, that the "Love
of God," a universal force that watches over politics, philosophes
and religions, is the coalescing power to lead humanity towards a
prosperous and righteous tomorrow.
My Big TOE, written by a nuclear physicist in the language of contemporary Western culture, unifies science and philosophy, physics and metaphysics, mind and matter, purpose and meaning, the normal and the paranormal. The entirety of human experience (mind, body, and spirit), including both our objective and subjective worlds, is brought together under one seamless scientific understanding.
If you have a logical, open, and inquisitive mind - an attitude of scientific pragmatism that appreciates the elegance of fundamental truth and the thrill of breakthrough - you will enjoy this journey of personal and scientific discovery. This trilogy delivers the next major scientific conceptual breakthrough since relativity and quantum mechanics raised scientific eyebrows in the first half of the twentieth century. No catch, no megalomania, no hypothetical wacki-ness, no goofy beliefs, no unusual assumptions - just straightforward science that better describes the totality of our experience and provides a wealth of practical results and new understanding that can be applied personally and professionally by scientists and nonscien-tists alike.
