The idea of this book started with the listed rod and reel records of the catch of Striped Bass of 60 pounds or more. Investigation showed many of these men and women who caught these big bass have passed on or can't be found and their stories lost. It became obvious that a 60-pound plus Striped Bass caught by rod and reel was a rare event. So rare that I could not find a 100 after looking through all sought of outdoor media information. If so rare a catch was registered, the story of the catch must be just as unique. After interviewing many of these men and women, I realized that each story contained the passion of its angler and the determination of its foe, the Striped Bass. These rare stories should be preserved; once lost, they will be gone forever. They contain passions from real men and women who have spent countless days, months or even years seeking this trophy.
Whether standing in a quiet Wisconsin creek, by a high-country lake in Wyoming, or on the grassy margins of England's hallowed chalkstreams, Kevin Searock believes anglers are driven by a vision: ""There are things on this good Earth that only the angler sees, and one of them is the breathless beauty of a trout emerging from a river."" Here, in this evocative collection of fishing essays, he takes readers under the surface of this ancient sport, casting a spell of water-magic. Although trout are central to many of the stories, bluegills, bass, and other warm-water fish also grace these pages. Telling stories in thoughtful prose, Searock writes about fly-tying, collecting fishing literature, journaling, and traveling in a way that makes Troutsmith a rich and varied meditation on fishing and the outdoors.
"Fishing's Greatest Misadventures" presents twenty-six true stories which cover the spectrum from terrifying to comical to downright bizarre. In these pages everyday fishermen, pros, and journalists tell their stories of freak accidents, fishy attacks, pranks, idiotic decisions, eerie or unexplained incidents, and other jaw dropping, adrenalin-pumping calamities. The stories bring to life the strange possibilities that await us once we cast our lines into known and unknown waters.Inside these pages you'll meet: a sport fisherman who gets taken on harrowing underwater ride by an angry white shark; an adventure angler whose boat is over turned by a 200 lb Amazon-river catfish; a group of ice fishermen who lose their cabin, gear and pride to a single sturgeon; a teenager who sabotages a fish farm and frees 300,000 salmon; and a charter boat operator who gets speared through the chest by a leaping marlin. From lakes to rivers to the ocean, this book covers every form of angling, and all that can go wrong.
T.E. Pritt's timeless classic The Book of the Grayling has inspired generations of fly-fishers. First published in 1888, it was long considered the definitive book of the subject of grayling. Pritt drew from a long and rich Northern English tradition of fly-fishing in the limestone rivers and streams of Yorkshire. Many of the methods and techniques he describes are still to be found in use today. This new edition of The Book of the Grayling makes Pritt's eloquent prose available to fly-fishers and armchair adventurers the world over.

The book is a combination of all the things pertaining to my fishing for so many years. It is how I got started, what I learned, who I met, what I caught, what interesting things happened. I am not through learning or enjoying my life doing this. There is always something new tomorrow. The pictures are of the people that I knew, myself, odd things we caught, or odd things that happened.
The Silver Invicta is a stream of impressions from a fishing life, in its varying moods, coloured with plenty of whisky and eccentric company. Join Tom Harland on his light-hearted journeys with his fly rod; take part in his triumphs and disasters on rough, wild camping trips and share his encounters with the wildlife of Scotland's rivers and lochs. The 'Silver Invicta' was the traditional fly which was taken by Tom's first salmon and is also a nod to the spirit of Scotland's embattled migratory fish. Tom has fished throughout his local Scottish Borders, England, the Western Isles and New Zealand (a country he lived and worked in for two years), but his real passion is for the brown trout of the hill lochs of Assynt in the North-west Highlands. Open this treasure trove of a book to share the pleasure the author finds through fishing respectfully in magical, wild, and seldom-visited places.

The catching of fish, said the Sage of Chocoloskee, is but an incident in fishing. He told the frozen truth. To be out in the open where fish are; to watch them at their great business of living; to see them in the water or out of the water; to fish for them, and even to hook them and have them get away-all this is wonderfully worthwhile-wonderfully better worthwhile than merely to catch and keep the stiffening fading body of one of the most beautiful forms of life. Gifford Pinchot, twice governor of Pennsylvania and America's premier fisherman presents twenty-three personal experiences in story form. From the mountain streams of Pennsylvania to the scented isles of the South Seas, the author weaves a magic web of angling enchantment. Just Fishing Talk is ideal armchair entertainment for every man or woman who loves the outdoors. If you are one of those who revel in the tang of salt spray or the fragrance of mountain pin and fern--if you can think of no thrill greater than the swift surge of a hooked fish--you will treasure this book.
Master story teller Charlie Elliott says it perfectly in this book for all fishermen: "Whether you are a fresh water Walton or the owner of a yacht, plowing the depths beyond the sight of land for a long-billed monster of the sea, you are seeking out the quiet aquatic spaces of the earth for a reason more compelling than to satisfy your stomach juices. "Whenever you assemble your tackler, there are latent questions in your mind. What adventure awaits you just beyond the river bend, or when you beach your boat where the forest marches down to meet the laek? What delightful memory will you bring home, or what bizarre hair graying thrill could encounter you unexpectedly where the water trails run out and stop? "Those are not the only reasons you fish, by any stretch of nylon thread. Whether you are out for salmon or for lunker bass, of grayling or bonefish, your premeditated design of the day calls for out-thinking, out- maneuvering and then out-battling some wary old mossback of the depths or shallows. But as an adjunct to this high ideal, you are also seeking many other things which add immeasurably more to your day than meant on your table. You're looking for sunshine on the water, the refrigerated glades, the bonds of friendship between strong men. Your diversions of the day include a hundred adventures not listed in a fishing guide."
Bugwater is that soggy place inhabited by creepy, crawly, hopping, flying, wriggling creatures we call, if imprecisely, bugs. Organized around the seasons, BugWater follows the bugs and the trout through their life cycles from spring through winter. Thomason's stunningly striking photos and fascinating narratives show off the bugs up close, in amazing detail. With the author's insights as both a scientist and fly fisher and his expertise as a photographer, this book delivers solid content all fly fishers can learn from.
Joe Brooks takes the reader with him as he fishes the finest places in the world. His life is a series of major trips, followed by sterling accounts of the situations and incidents encountered Greatest Fishing not only divulges the location of superlative spots and pertinent information relative to accommodations, but intermingled throughout is a wealth of applicable fishing know-how. One wonderful excursion after another passes in review as opportunities are divulged to the ardent angler. Beach, reef and ocean fishing is Bermuda produces endless variety including bonefish, mackerel, wahoo and many unexpected catches. Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island," the Isle of Pines, Cuba, provides the ultimate in fishing for the speed demon bonefish. The word "Panama" means "waters of many fishes" and Joes found that name fitted those fish-filled waters on the Atlantic side of the isthmus. In the estimation of some anglers, Atlantic salmon provide the ultimate in angling thrills and finesse. One of the famous spots for Solar is the foot of the falls of the Humber River, Newfoundland. Brook trout fishing too, in this youngest Canadian province is spectacular, for when a brook trout goes to see and then returns to his native waters, he is fat, sassy and full of fight. Great light tackle sport is to be had around the Bahamas. Fishing for snook in the awesome half-world of the vast Everglades swamps of Florida is like angling out of this world. The Florida Keys too, present great opportunities for the angler and they are within easy striking distance of the home of this restless angler.
