For an angler, it's tough to beat the fresh-caught flavor and
satisfaction of a delicious fish dinner savored after a successful
day on the water. But to get the most from your catch, it must be
handled, cleaned, and prepared properly from the moment of capture.
In this long-awaited guide, outdoorsman Monte Burch, with the help
of step-by-step instructions and detailed illustrations, explains
how to handle all types of gamefish caught in both fresh and salt
water, including trout, salmon, bass, walleye, perch, catfish,
northern pike, bluefish, redfish, striped bass, and many others.
This handbook covers the skills needed for gutting, scaling,
skinning, steaking, and filleting all popular gamefish, as well as
the knives, tools, and other equipment needed, and illustrates
basic cooking methods. Burch also describes the best techniques for
preserving fish, including freezing, drying, pickling, canning, and
smoking. Then he shares many of his favorite recipes for frying,
baking, poaching, and broiling your fish. Cleaning and Preparing
Gamefish is a book all anglers will want to keep close at hand and
refer to often. Its usefulness will last a lifetime.

A blip of prosperity at the turn of the 20th century brought
American trout to Patagonia, then for a half-century they were
forgotten to fight wars and build a nation. Rediscovered by
fishermen a half-century later, the fish had grown to epic
proportions. In Chasing Rumor, Cameron Chambers chronicles his
modern-day pilgrimage to the rivers of Patagonia in pursuit of
these legendary 20-pound trout. What started as a trip focused on
catching fish became a love affair with the Patagonian landscape,
environment, and, mostly, the people. From a business mogul turned
B&B owner to a kid determined to save a local trout population,
Chasing Rumor is at times the story of a handful of fishermen, and
at other times a tale of enormous trout.
Wild Spaces, Open Seasons traces the theme of hunting and fishing
in American art from the early nineteenth century through World War
II. Describing a remarkable group of American paintings and
sculpture, the contributors reveal the pervasiveness of the
subjects and the fascinating contexts from which they emerged. In
one important example after another, the authors demonstrate that
representations of hunting and fishing did more than illustrate
subsistence activities or diverting pastimes. The portrayal of
American hunters and fishers also spoke to American ambitions and
priorities. In his introduction, noted outdoorsman and author
Stephen J. Bodio surveys the book's major artists, who range from
society painters to naturalists and modernists. Margaret C. Adler
then explores how hunting and fishing imagery in American art
reflects traditional myths, some rooted in classicism, others in
the American appetite for tall tales. Kory W. Rogers, in his
discussion of works that valorize the dangers hunters faced
pursuing their prey, shows how American artists constructed new
rituals at a time when the United States was rapidly transforming
from a frontier society into a modern urban nation. Shirley
Reece-Hughes looks at depictions of families, pairs, and parties of
hunters and fishers and how social bonding reinvigorated American
society at a time of social, political, and cultural change.
Finally, Adam M. Thomas considers themes of exploration and hunting
as integral to conveying the individualism that was a staple of
westward expansion. In their depictions of the hunt or the catch,
American artists connected a dynamic and developing nation to its
past and its future. Through the examination of major works of art,
Wild Spaces, Open Seasons brings to light an often-overlooked theme
in American painting and sculpture.
Sprinkled in between the fly dressings and tying lessons are
hundreds of illustrations drawn by longtime fishing guide Doug
Stewart as well as personal stories and anecdotes. These are
interesting and informative--each one containing an element of
knowledge or instruction that will add to your fishing success.
The book's purpose is to help you become a more complete angler, a
better fly tier, and a more successful fly fisher. It covers all
aspects of fly fishing: casting, proper equipment, tying flies,
reading water, the feeding habits of fish, and the proper strategy
for fishing a stretch of river. Also included in the book are
traditional and historical flies along with a selection of Doug's
favorite patterns. Dressings and instructions are also presented.
Doug Stewart, a lifelong fly fisher, is also a fly-tying
instructor and guide and a fly shop owner, and has written about
fly-fishing for "The Oregon Sportsman "and Amato Publications. Doug
spent many years teaching customers how to fly fish during the
thirty-two years he owned Stewart's Fly Shop. "I think I get more
out of teaching someone, out of seeing them be successful or catch
their first fish, than I do out of catching my own," Doug
says.
The result of more than thirty years' experience, Bass Fishing on
Shore and Sea is a comprehensive guide to catching this beautiful
yet challenging gamefish. The bass is wily and powerful, awesomely
fast and fights with unparalleled aggression when hooked. Add to
the the fact that the fish can be found along some of the wildest,
most unspoilt shorelines or out on the lonely sea, and it is clear
why bass fishing holds such allure for sport anglers. Topics
covered include: where to look for bass and how to fish for them;
tackle and techniques for shore fishing; what baits to use and how
to obtain them; the equipment and techniques for boat fishing, both
inshore and further out and fishing with lures. Illustrated
throughout with superb photographs, this book is essential reading
for all sea anglers.
This book contains a mixture of old and new Carp Angling methods, a
sprinkling of valuable tips and tricks and there is something for
everyone. Within these pages, you will find the nuts and bolts of
fishing for carp, including many lessons learned along the way as
we look back, and predict what might happen in the future. Some of
the 'faces' who have contributed to "Heads Down, Tails Up" are well
known in the British carp scene and some not so much, but they all
delivered a quality interview or guest chapter from which we can
all gain something. It took a certain amount of gentle persuasion,
but eventually, they all conceded and we can all be grateful for
their shared knowledge. It's been a long journey since I typed the
first word, but now having viewed all the material with images and
captions in place, I can sleep easily, knowing that I have
accomplished my mission with the assistance of many good friends. I
hope this book gives you an insight to the various situations that
we find ourselves in as we pursue our goals, and that your fishing
lives will be enriched because of it. There has always been more
than one way to catch a carp and if Heads Down, Tails Up influences
you, adds another string to your bow, or results in more carp
gracing your net, then I will be more than happy.

Jason Davis was introduced to trout fishing over 25 years ago on a
small Northern Michigan stream. As most trout fishermen do, he
began with a spinning rod and hardware. Eventually, in 2005, Jason
started fishing with a fly rod exclusively. During the winter of
2008 he was invited to a Clinton Valley Trout Unlimited meeting and
learned about the great conservation opportunities within the
Clinton River watershed. Weeks later he joined the Clinton River
Watershed Council for their annual Stonefly Search. This sparked an
interest in local conservation.
Dace The Prince of the Stream is only the second book ever
dedicated to this charismatic and widespread coarse fish. (The 'How
to Catch them' book on dace was published well over 50 years ago.)
This new book, generously illustrated in full colour, covers all
aspects of the natural history of the fish, angling approaches, and
the cultural
