The volumes of Organic Reactions are collections of chapters each
devoted to a single reaction, or a definite phase of a reaction, of
wide applicability. The material is treated from a preparative
viewpoint, with emphasis on limitations, interfering influences,
effects of structure, and the selection of experimental techniques.
Numerous detailed procedures illustrate the significant
modifications of each method. Includes tables that contain all
possible examples of the reaction under consideration.
This Foundation Workbook is designed to support the development of
key literacy and numeracy skills of students in the 1-3 grade
range, as well as building confidence in answering open response
questions. The amount of scaffolded support decreases throughout
the workbook to encourage independent learning. - Summarises all
the Foundation content to be learned for each topic - Provides
plenty of practice questions - Builds confidence by showing how to
answer questions or work through calculations - Helps students to
improve their answers by focusing on use of key scientific
vocabulary, how to link key concepts, and work with graphs Each
topic opens with a bulleted summary of the key ideas, reminding
students of the key scientific vocabulary and equations they should
be able to recall. The questions begin with confidence-building,
low demand questions (multiple choice, matching, sentence
completion or closed short answer) leading to more open questions
including calculations as part of structured questions. The
questions include applying and analysing as well as recall, for
example bringing in skills used in analysing results from practical
work. Frequent support notes provide hints and tips on key
vocabulary, how to answer open response questions (for example by
writing causal explanations), strategies for decoding questions
(for example by identifying key words in the question) and how to
interpret information from tables and graphs. 'Show me' writing
frames demonstrate how to build longer answers, how to work with
equations in science and how to convert units. In later pages the
level of scaffolding is gradually reduced by removing the guided
support so that students are supported in becoming independent
learners throughout their GCSE course.

The 21 Super Simple Chemistry Experiments workbook presents the
steps of scientific investigation individually in separate
experiments so students can focus on one aspect of scientific
inquiry at a time. Students will learn how to make good
observations, build models, and evaluate data. Each experiment is
simple and easy to do and will help students develop the skills
they need for real science investigations. Each experiment has a
one page description with minimal setup and materials.
The Focus On High School Chemistry Student Textbook provides
students with a solid foundation in chemistry that will prepare
them for college level classes. Topics covered include atoms and
mass, chemical bonding, chemical reactions, acids and bases,
acid-base reactions, mixtures, separating mixtures, organic
chemistry, polymers, DNA, RNA, and more. The Focus On High School
Chemistry Student Textbook contains ten full-color chapters. Grades
9-12.
Designed with the non-specialist teacher in mind, the emphasis of
this book is to provide them with the confidence, flair and
enthusiasm to teach chemistry at KS3 or KS4. Provision of 80
experiments to inspire and engage the students, practical help with
the experiments and health and safety guidance means the teacher
has all the tools they might require when improving the teaching of
chemistry. Originally developed as course material for the Royal
Society of Chemistry (RSC) Chemistry for Non-Specialist course,
organised in collaboration with the national network of Science
Learning Centres (SLCs) and supported by an unrestricted
educational grant from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), the resources are
tried and tested and known to be effective. The course book is
accompanied by a CD-ROM and together they make a valuable addition
to the educational resources and aids for non-specialist teachers
teaching chemistry.
Chemistry can be divided into branches according to either the
substances studies or the types of study conducted. The primary
division of the first type is between inorganic and organic
chemistry. Divisions of the second type are physical chemistry and
analytical chemistry. The original distinction between organic and
inorganic chemistry arose as chemists gradually realized that
compounds of biological origin were quite different in their
general properties from those of mineral origin; organic chemistry
was defined as the study of substances produced by living
organisms. When it was discovered in the 19th century that organic
molecules can be produced artificially in the laboratory, this
definition had to be abandoned. Organic chemistry is most simply
defined as the study of the compounds of carbon. Inorganic
chemistry is the study of chemical elements and their compounds.
This book has been prepared for students, researchers and teachers
of chemistry.
21 Super Simple Chemistry Experiments are easy-to-set-up science
experiments that cover a critical aspect of scientific inquiry,
such as making a good observation, data analysis, using controls,
or comparing results. The 21 Super Simple Chemistry Experiments
explore acids and bases, gas laws, using the periodic table, and
much more.

Educating the next generation of chemists about green chemistry
issues, such as waste minimisation and clean synthesis, is vital
for environmental sustainability. This book enables green issues to
be taught from the underlying principles of all chemistry courses
rather than in isolation. Chapters contributed by green chemistry
experts from across the globe, with experience in teaching at
different academic levels, provide a coherent overview of possible
approaches to incorporate green chemistry into existing
curriculums. Split into three sections, the book first introduces
sustainability and green chemistry education , before focussing on
high school green chemistry education initiatives and green
chemistry education at undergraduate and post-graduate levels.
Useful laboratory experiments and in-class activities to aid
teaching are included. This book is a valuable resource for
chemical educators worldwide who wish to integrate green chemistry
into chemical education in a systematic and holistic way. It is
also of interest to anyone wanting to learn more about the
different approaches adopted around the world in sustainability
education.
