In the style of James Thurber's "The Dog Department" meets "Marley
and Me," "Shepherd Girl: A Dog Story" chronicles the exploits of
Athena, a silly long-coated German shepherd. Athena is goofy,
clumsy, and vain, and although she successfully foils a stranger's
abduction of the author in a dark parking lot, she also finds time
to chase lawn gnomes, strip the author topless at the Dog Park, and
play-bow to stuffed toys at an age when she should know better.
Athena is at times exasperating and certainly no perfect replica of
Rin Tin Tin, but the underlying love and devotion between dog and
author are undeniable. For all who have loved a dog, Shepherd Girl:
A Dog Story will remind them why. "If you've ever considered
bringing home the spunky little German shepherd puppy that caught
your eye, you might think again after reading Cat Needham's
hilarious recount of one frenzied moment after another with
Athena." - Bob Tarte, Author of "Enslaved by Ducks" and "Fowl
Weather"
According to a Scottish saying, There is no good flock without a
good shepherd, and there is no good shepherd without a good dog.

his farm in West Virginia. McCaig delves into the mysterious pact
between dog and man, which involves trust and deep communication.
Traveling the countryside, to competitions and farms, meeting
shepherds and trainers, McCaig introduces us to unforgettable
animal and human characters. A must for dog lovers, and anyone
interested in the relationship between animals and humans.

Canon Daniel Clement is Rector of Champton, where he lives
alongside his widowed mother - opinionated, fearless,
ever-so-slightly annoying Audrey - and his two dachshunds, Cosmo
and Hilda. When Daniel announces a plan to install a lavatory in
the church, the parish is suddenly (and unexpectedly) divided: as
lines are drawn, long-buried secrets come dangerously close to
destroying the apparent calm of the village. And then Anthony
Bowness - cousin to Bernard de Floures, patron of Champton - is
found dead at the back of the church. As the police moves in and
the bodies start piling up, Daniel is the only one who can try and
keep his community together... and catch a killer.
MEMOIR OF THE REV. JOHN RUSSELL AND HIS OUT OF DOOR LIFE. By E.W.L.
Davies. A VINTAGE DOG BOOKS CLASSIC REPRINT. Originally published
in 1878 while the Rev. Russell was still alive, the book was then
republished in 1883 with an extra chapter dealing with Russell's
death and funeral. Both editions are now extremely scarce and
expensive. VINTAGE DOG BOOKS have republished the 1883 edition,
using the original text and illustrations as part of their CLASSIC
BREED BOOKS series. The Rev. John Russell of Tordown in Devon is
probably best known for his establishment of one of the worlds
favourite dog breeds: The Jack Russell Terrier. This book is
devoted to Russell's life as one of the great foxhunting characters
in English history, and his passionate involvement with horses,
hounds and terriers in his beloved Devon countryside. Although not
a typical dog book this title will prove of great interest to
anyone owning a Jack Russell Terrier, with its lively anecdotes of
the history and origins of this game little dog. The author was a
good friend of the Rev. Russell and before this book of memoirs was
published he consulted his subject on the veracity of every line of
its contents. John Russell's life and his love of sport is detailed
from his early days at Tiverton School where he kept his first pack
of hounds. For the next 75 years his life revolved around the
Church and his love of hunting the fox, stag and hare. Upon his
death in 1883 Russell left a legacy to the world not only of a
hunting legend, but also the Jack Russell breed of terrier now
loved by so many. This is a fascinating four hundred page read for
any Jack Russell Terrier enthusiast or historian of the breed, and
will also standas an important record of the early days of hunting
in the South West. Many of the earliest dog books, particularly
those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce
and increasingly expensive. VINTAGE DOG BOOKS are republishing
these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions,
using the original text and artwork.

Having a puppy is one of the greatest joys in life. The
unconditional love that one gets from dogs is unbelievable.
Faversham was the cause of my living when my husband died. He was
my constant companion and got really distressed when he saw me
crying. Later when life improved if Faversham got into some
mischief, all I had to say was Do you want Mummy to cry? He would
immediately stop, come near me and put his hugh paws on me. dirty
tricks. All I wanted to do was to rent an apartment and live
peacefully with Faversham. LeFrak had only one decent person
working for him - Jack Friedman. He told me how I was being used as
an example to other tenants with pets. I shall be forever indebted
to Major Koch for passing the Dog Law and Judge Sparks for seeing
through the lies that Moskowich told me. Also many thanks to the
neighbors who wrote lovely letters bout Faversham and last but not
least Jolene Marion, Faversham's Attorney who advised me and
consold me during the 14 months of trial and tribulation caused me
by an unconscionable landlord. Elizabeth's ascension to the throne,
and a lady came up to me and said I hate to tell you I can't
remember your name but I do remember your dog's name Faversham. The
lady was Dr. Linda Jacobson, Faversham's vet.

.A good dog will change your life. When Eloise met Gamble, her
first golden retriever, she befriended a gentle, generous soul who
understood the art of being a healing presence. Years later, when
overwhelming depression and debilitating physical challenges
forever changed her lifestyle, outlook, and career, her life went
to the dogs. Research about service dogs and the profound impact
they can have on a life quickly became her one life-affirming
activity. The partnership she envisioned would provide comfort and
support by giving her new purpose, allowing her to conquer the many
challenges her new life presented.
A mental health counselor, artist, and animal lover, Eloise
emphasizes the miraculous competencies of dogs who literally and
figuratively open new doors for countless people challenged by
physical or mental health problems.
This is also a story about a very special dog named Rusty.
Through Rusty, Eloise provides useful information for others
interested in bringing a service animal into their lives. Eloise
and Rusty explore how dogs have responded to our changing needs
from prehistoric times to the present. Eloise's lifelong
experiences with animals and her study of the human-dog bond,
including research into the evolution of the dog and their special
intelligence, are candidly reflected in her tales about pets and
partners.
