behaviour has finally caught up with him - it's time for obedience
school! Can this terrible pug ever be tamed? Not if he can help
it... Filled with Aaron Blabey's signature rhyming text and
unforgettable illustrations! Perfect for fans of the previous books
in the series: Pig the Pug, Pig the Winner, Pig the Elf, Pig the
Star, Pig the Fibber, Pig the Stinker, Pig the Tourist, Pig the
Slob and Pig the Monster
Walking with Wallace is about a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and the
debates he and the Brigadier have (in which, when visiting, his
grandson Archie participates), as they walk in the beautiful South
Northamptonshire countryside. These debates reflect philosophical
and scientific concerns of man and dog, such as their origins and
that of the Universe they live in. The Brigadier assumes that he
can, pretty accurately, interpret Wallace's thoughts. However,
Wallace is an intelligent dog and clearly might disagree with some
of these interpretations, though perhaps too polite to tell him so.
Since the sad death of his wife, Sara, the Brigadier, until the
arrival of Wallace, lived on his own - though not alone, as he has
fours sons, four daughter-in-laws and twelve grandchildren, whom he
visits as often as possible. Over the last 13 years, he has,
however, seen more of Wallace than any other living creature. They
are both now ageing rapidly, though Wallace perhaps more
gracefully. Their time remaining together is sadly limited, for
everyone has an allotted lifespan - though dogs rather shorter than
men, so it is likely that Wallace will 'move on' first. If so, the
Brigadier will miss him horribly, but if not, who would then look
after an old and rather spoilt Staffie? Whichever of them is left
behind, will, like everyone else, just have to 'kick on'. In one of
their more controversial debates, the Brigadier asked whether dogs
too have souls? And if not, when in the evolutionary process did
humans acquire theirs? Will he and Wallace meet again in another
life? Wallace's philosophy is simple. The past is the past, live
for the present and let the future take care of itself. The story
told is largely factual and largely about Wallace, with a clearly
identifiable relationship between the Brigadier and the author.

Live. Laugh. Bark. What could be better than the presence of a
fuzzy and faithful four-legged friend? From their loyalty and
devotion to their endearing capacity to face life, work and
exercise with endless enthusiasm, dogs have been our steadfast
companions for thousands of years. They may be wordless, but their
ability to communicate with deeply expressive eyes, a wagging tail
or a joyful bark brings out the very best in their humans – and
it's no wonder they have inspired many a bon mot or wise insight
over the decades. Packed full of wonderful quotes as well as
fascinating snippets of information, this little book is the
perfect gift for any dog-lover. 'If you pick up a starving dog and
make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal
difference between a dog and a man.' Mark Twain, Pudd’nhead
Wilson, 1894. 'Like many other much-loved humans, they believed
that they owned their dogs, instead of realizing that their dogs
owned them.' Dodie Smith, The 101 Dalmatians, 1956. 'My dog is half
pit-bull, half poodle. Not much of a watchdog, but a vicious
gossip.' Craig Shoemaker.
______________________ What do my dog's barks mean? Should I be
brushing their teeth? How do I even know what kind of dog is right
for me? Let's be honest, pets may seem pretty straightforward, but
as soon as you become an owner there are so many questions. Mat
Ward is an internationally recognised expert on dog behaviour, and
for him the secret to success is knowing that dogs and humans are
both full of potential. (To prove it, he once taught a rescue dog
how to fly a plane.) His tips for being the world's best owner come
with original illustrations that explain everything you need to
know, from how to avoid 'separation anxiety' to why dogs wag their
tails. With this book, you'll learn how your pet's brain really
works and discover amazing, direct ways to train them at any age
from puppy upwards. Play new games, develop communication skills
and just relax into having fun together! Your dog will be
well-trained and contented - and that means you'll feel happy too.

In Life on Four Legs: a memoir, Gianna, a Portuguese Water Dog,
recounts her life's journey, from birth and puppyhood in a dog
breeder's kennel, to her formative years in an abusive home,
through the final stage of her journey as a beloved family pet. The
book owes its unique vision to the strong emotional and spiritual
bond between animal and human, a connection that enabled Gianna's
thoughts and feelings to be expressed in words.

Fills a gap in the market for a book that advises on the physical
side of developing and maintaining a healthy puppy, as well as a
rehomed older dog. There's lots on behavioural training, but
nothing on this essential element. Dog behaviour consultants,
instructors and dog owners are crying out for this information. For
instance, people frequently ask 'how much exercise should I give my
puppy?' and this book not only answers that but shows that there
are other better ways to exercise a dog than walking in a straight
line. Without knowledge of dog anatomy and physiology, people can
exercise their dogs in ways that (and create environments that)
have negative and long-lasting impacts on canine health. Useful and
applicable for professionals and owners no matter what behavioural
training technique they use. Useful for veterinarians and other
people working in healthcare with dogs because it gives in-depth
description of functional anatomy and the overall musculoskeletal
system, as well as practical information and illustrations that can
be recommended to their clients, making that part of their job
easier. Internationally applicable. In most books, the point of
focus is the human, but the focal point of this book is the puppy.
What does living with humans mean to him? This is refreshing and
needed. Julia's accessible, light-hearted writing style makes the
more challenging technical aspects easy to comprehend. The many
colour illustrations are a great help in understanding the text and
link explicitly to everyday experience. Julia Robertson is the
expert in this field: her book is based on novel theory and many
years of experience. Should be standard reading for all dog owners,
dog instructors, dog behaviour consultants, dog shelters,
veterinarians students, veterinarians, and all other education's
and organisations that have to do with dogs in our society.

THE POPULAR FOX TERRIER By the Rev. A.J. Skinner. A VINTAGE DOG
BOOKS CLASSIC REPRINT. This scarce early work on the Fox Terrier
was first published in 1926 and is now extremely hard to find in
its first edition. VINTAGE DOG BOOKS have republished it, using the
original text and illustrations as part of their CLASSIC BREED
BOOKS series. The author was founder of the Borlase Fox Terrier
Kennels, and contributed much of interest to Fox Terrier
literature. His terriers won many championship shows and were much
sought after as breeding stock. The book consists of one hundred
and forty pages containing eleven detailed chapters: The Fox
Terrier as a Hobby and as a Pal. - Standard and Requirements. -
Principles of Breeding. Mendels Law, Pedigrees, Out Crossing etc. -
Pertinacity in Breeding. - Preparing for Show. - The Working Fox
Terrier. - As an Earth Dog. - Feeding. - Ailments. - Management. -
Present Day Champions and their Pedigrees. - Trimming a Wire Fox
Terrier. - Breeders, Exhibitors and Judges. Etc. The contents are
well illustrated with line drawings and vintage black and white
photographs of champions and their pedigrees. The publishers have
also retained several pages of original advertisements for Fox
Terrier kennels etc. This is a fascinating read for any Fox Terrier
enthusiast or historian of the breed, but also contains much
information that is still practical and useful today. Many of the
earliest dog breed books, particularly those dating back to the
1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly
expensive. VINTAGE DOG BOOKS are republishing these classic works
in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original
text and artwork.
