A groundbreaking spiritual conversation that invites you to step
beyond the limits of any one faith into a global spirituality. Long
description:The World Wisdom Bible is a global spiritual
conversation about the nature of life and how best to live it.
Drawing on ancient and timeless texts from Christianity, Judaism,
Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Confucianism, and Taoism, this
compendium of sacred texts juxtaposes seemingly divergent teachings
to create a spiritual collage of wisdom that crosses religious
boundaries, and invites the reader to step beyond the limits of any
one faith into a global spirituality. Organized by themes—The
Absolute, Justice, Wisdom, Compassion, Spiritual Practice, Ethical
Living, and more—The World Wisdom Bible is more than an anthology
of diverse teachings; it is a new scripture for those who describe
themselves as spiritual independents, spiritual but not religious,
and nones. Where conventional Bibles and scriptures speak to
believers of one religion or another, The World Wisdom Bible speaks
to seekers of every faith and none.
Having misused women, power and the life-energy of his followers,
the Seeker must overcome his demons - not figuratively but
literally - in the astral, etheric and physical dimensions of
reality. But in order to face them, he must first cross the
threshold to the spiritual world... Transforming Demons takes us on
an astonishing journey - from contemporary Norway to Ancient
Atlantis, to Ireland and India - where we encounter leprechauns,
dragons, evil spirits, hallucinogenic drugs, and a mysterious
golden cross with a red ruby at its heart. With hubris, arrogance
and deceit, the Seeker has abused his magical powers in previous
existences. If he is finally to resolve his knotted karma, he must
first confront his misdeeds, and the demons that were created as a
result. Then he must learn to transform those demons in order to
free them - and him - from the weight of his past. This is a
remarkable true memoir that crosses lifetimes, thousands of years
and manifold dimensions. It is an authentic story of transformation
and redemption on the path to self-knowledge, freedom and love.
Hinduism has become a vital 'other' for Judaism over the past
decades. The book surveys the history of the relationship from
historical to contemporary times, from travellers to religious
leadership. It explores the potential enrichment for Jewish
theology and spirituality, as well as the challenges for Jewish
identity.
What did Swami Vivekananda recommend about the eating of vegetarian
and non-vegetarian food? Which of these did Swamiji enjoy the most:
his mother's chorchori (a mixed vegetable delicacy), his father's
pulao or his own khichuri? Was he fond of spicy food, sweets, or
ice cream? During his days of hunger and want, for how many days at
a stretch did Swamiji have to go without food? Over the last 150
years, writings on Swami Vivekananda's culinary interests have
intrigued a wide spectrum of people across the world. This includes
hitherto unknown stories of his spreading the art of making pulao
and khichuri along with his propagation of the Vedas, in the United
States of America. While many thinkers wonder at Swamiji's immense
enthusiasm for teaching Indian cooking, yet it is not quite clear
why no complete book about our culinary-enthusiast monk Vivekananda
has ever been published in any language. Swami Vivekananda: The
Feasting, Fasting Monk is the humble, illumination of a thousand
faceted diamond by Sankar.
This book employs the concept 'Resurrection' to signify the human
being's spiritual awakening amidst the phantoms and decay of
physical existence. Thus considered, 'Resurrection' means the
rising from the leaden sleep of minds who dream they are awake.
"Resurrection" here is not the arbitrary gift reserved by an
imagined higher power for believers, but every human being's
spiritually given obligation and potential. How this obligation is
fulfilled, the author shows in all his books from different
perspectives. The present book would make the reader comprehend
that people can be physically awake while being spiritually fast
asleep, and that this state is typical for the majority. It follows
that the concepts "knowledge", "God", "Eternal Life" and others
touching final things, which spiritually sleeping minds debate, are
in reality no more than intellectual fabrications. The objective
truth that underlies these concepts can be apprehended only when
the individual has been spiritually "resurrected". As the
attainment of this all-surpassing goal requires competent advice,
knowledgeable guidance, and effective help, the book sheds light on
what is to be known and done, and what should be avoided.
If we want to heal our personal and planetary problems, we have to
move beyond talking to spiritual practice. Pastor Don Mackenzie,
Rabbi Ted Falcon and Imam Jamal Rahman, who have become known as
the Interfaith Amigos, believe truly effective interfaith dialogue
can inhibit the demonization of any religion. Their work together,
which began with the horrors of 9/11, aims to help us see all
authentic spiritual traditions as sacred avenues to a shared
Universal Reality—when we achieve this, the healing of our shared
personal and planetary problems begins. In this, their third book,
the Interfaith Amigos look at the specific issues we face in a
pluralistic society and the spiritual practices that can help us
transcend those roadblocks to effective collaboration on the
critical issues of our time. Focusing on the interconnection of
spirituality and authentic interfaith dialogue, they examine: How

You cannot function where you don't understand. Without
understanding nothing will succeed. Your mind must be enlightened.
Any worship of anything that's external to you is intolerable. God
must be worshipped in Truth and in Spirit, and Spirit of Truth is
the word of God.
In this hopeful book, Mark shares his journey of early heartache,
tragedy, and bad decisions-and his continued search for answers.
While those experiences could have left him trapped in anger, fear,
and mediocrity, he discovered that he was not trapped (or a
victim)-he had a choice! He could move beyond the fear and negative
emotions to live a life of adventure with a big WHY. The Story of
You will take you along the journey of Mark's mindset as you
discover how he began filling his mind with faith-building
thoughts. The Story of You will challenge you to open up your heart
and discover how the unexplained and often unwelcome events in your
lives can move you towards the greatness intended for each of us,
because impossible is where every great adventure begins.
Today, the surprisingly elastic form of the memoir embraces
subjects that include dying, illness, loss, relationships, and
self-awareness. Writing to reveal the inner self--the pilgrimage
into one's spiritual and/or religious nature--is a primary calling.
Contemporary memoirists are exploring this field with innovative
storytelling, rigorous craft, and new styles of confessional
authorship. Now, Thomas Larson brings his expertise as a critic,
reader, and teacher to the boldly evolving and improvisatory world
of spiritual literature. In his book-length essay Spirituality and
the Writer, Larson surveys the literary insights of authors old and
new who have shaped religious autobiography and spiritual
memoir--from Augustine to Thomas Merton, from Peter Matthiessen to
Cheryl Strayed. He holds them to an exacting standard: they must
render transcendent experience in the writing itself. Only when the
writer's craft prevails can the fleeting and profound personal
truths of the spirit be captured. Like its predecessor, Larson's
The Memoir and the Memoirist, Spirituality and the Writer will find
a home in writing classrooms and book groups, and be a resource for
students, teachers, and writers who seek guidance with exploring
their spiritual lives.
