This volume is principally the same' as the author's 1988 London
PhD thesis. In it she concentrates on the hanging bowls found in
context, in graves dated to the sixth and seventh cents on mainland
Britain; this amounts to a catalogue of some 78 sites, and a
collection of objects that seems to attract endless discussion. The
newest parts seem to be the discussion of the dating of the
contexts and of the socal significance of the bowls.
