The realisation for hearing parents that their child is deaf brings
an emotional shock and tears and over time many questions. Many
questions are left unanswered because of ignorance and because
there is no proper parental guidance from the deaf people's point
of view, to assist hearing parents in raising a deaf or a hard of
hearing child in South Africa. The first question hearing parents
usually ask, is: "How can we communicate with our deaf or hard of
hearing child?"
