This synchronic study grammar of Middle High German is designed on didactic principles. With thousands of references to the texts in question, it gives a translation-related description of the morphology and syntax of 10 works of courtly literature dating from 1180 to 1280 that are frequently used as set books at universities (AErecA, AGregoriusA, ADer arme HeinrichA, AIweinA, AMoritz von CrA[unA, AParzivalA, ATristanA, ADaniel von dem blA1/4henden TalA, AHelmbrechtA, APantaleonA). The corpus, evaluated and standardized with the aid of the computer, encompasses 82,544 verses and over 424,000 word forms. The presentation is both systematic and integrative, and differing didactic approaches to grammar are brought to bear on the language and synthesized in a way conducive to efficient learning.
