before purchasing the Emporia Gazette, which he edited for the next
49 years. A staunch Republican, White's Masks in a Pageant is his
account of leading politicians including Grover Cleveland, Theodore
Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Harding, Coolidge and William Hale
Thompson.
