In the book Organizational Social Irresponsibility: tools and
theoretical insights we focus both on theoretical and practical
aspects of organizational social irresponsibility and hope to
provide a contribution to the contemporary state of knowledge about
its causes and results. The book is divided into three parts: first
titled "Organizational Social Irresponsibility: Practices and
experiences", second: "The thousand faces of dark side of business"
and third: "Social, cultural and institutional dimensions". The
book is written by a range of authors from all over the world. They
provide us with examples of some irregularity in social
organizational activity. There were included some theoretical and
practical contributions into the topic of organizational social
irresponsibility, from different sectors (e.g. pharmaceutical or
manufacturing industry as well as public administration) and
various organizational processes (such as marketing, training,
innovation and knowledge management). We hope it will be a worthy
inspiration for struggling with dark sides of organizational
existence.
In a modern world in which one can observe managerial and
investors' behaviors characterized by high risk, short term
orientation, moral hazard and speculation, there is a need to form
a new ethical paradigm to drive a more ethical oriented education
and a substantial change to norms regulating markets and business
behavior to sensitize investors and financial practitioners, so
that humanity can evolve in a sustainable way. Therefore the main
question we are striving to answer throughout the book
Organizational Social Irresponsibility: individual behaviors and
organizational practices is the following: Do individual behaviors
influence organizational socially irresponsible practices? Each
separate chapter aims to find an answer to the above question. The
book is divided into three parts: first: "The dark side of
organizational behaviors", second: "Individual skills and the
workplace" and third: "Organizational politics, practices and
tools. This book is authored by a range of authors from all over
the world. They provide us with several theoretical and practical
contributions into the topic of organizational social
irresponsibility and individual behavior, facing different aspects
(e.g. workplace wellness, decision?making, diversity management).
We hope it will be useful for both business and academia and it
will help to shape reflective, socially responsible managers of the
future.
Digitalization is changing the world of work. Technology is
shifting the relationship between workers and machines and how work
is organized; new skills are becoming increasingly relevant in the
workplace where workers no longer work for a single company, in
9-to-5 jobs, five days a week. Industry 4.0, also known as the
Fourth Industrial Revolution, is revolutionizing the way managers
can design, control and improve their activities. While the nature
of the tasks and the interdependences between individuals are
changing, the impact of intelligent technologies is severely
questioning the span of control of leaders and the effectiveness of
their leadership styles. The authors sketch out the main changes
occurring in the business landscape and identify the new
expectations that organizations are formulating for leaders across
several industries. In an age in which new leadership models are
about to emerge, they describe how the relevant changes impact and
shape the managerial arena. This book sets the stage for a new way
of thinking on the nature of the relationship between HR and
technology. It examines the influence of Industry 4.0 and
Innovation 4.0, (i.e. the connection between physical and digital
processes in industrial production, where human competencies and
machine potential are strictly interconnected throughout the entire
value chain), from a myriad of viewpoints: namely in terms of
structures, practices, influences (learning, training and
communication), competencies and roles. A chapter is also dedicated
to the understanding of the impact of Innovation 4.0, in the
context of European Universities through E-learning Experiences
where a multiple-case study analysis is provided.
This edited book focuses on the organization and meaning of craft
work in contemporary society. It considers the relationship between
craft and place and how this enables the construction of a
meaningful relationship with objects of production and consumption.
The book explores the significance of raw materials, the
relationship between the body, the crafted object and the mind, and
the importance of skill, knowledge and learning in the making
process. Through this, it raises important questions about the role
of craft in facing future challenges by challenging the logic of
globalized production and consumption. The Organization of Craft
Work encompasses international analyses from the United States,
France, Italy, Australia, Canada, the UK and Japan involving a
diverse range of sectors, including brewing, food and wine
production, clothing and shoe making, and perfumery. The book will
be of interest to students and academic researchers in organization
studies, marketing and consumer behaviour, business ethics,
entrepreneurship, sociology of work, human resource management,
cultural studies, geography, and fashion and design. In addition,
the book will be of interest to practitioners and organizations
with an interest in the development and promotion of craft work.

Contemporary management studies usually focus on positive and
desirable solutions that increase the organizational effectiveness
and performance. As a result, graduates of higher business schools
are totally unaware of the risk associated with management
misconduct that often results in corrupt scandals, erosion of
public trust to their organizations, or even the collapse of
profitable corporations. The last decade, in fact, has been
abundant in numerous examples of corruption scandals in modern
organizations and instances of management misconduct that have
eroded public faith (such as Enron, WorldCom, Tyco, Adelphia,
Arthur Andersen, and Parmalat). Due to repeated misconducts and a
highly active dark side, scholars started paying more attention to
the so-called dark side of organizations, as something no longer
exceptional to organizational life. This book attempts to shed
light on the reality of challenges for business practices and
higher education management that stem from misconduct occurring in
various aspects of business and educational environment.
There are several reasons for this book. The very first reason is
that management practice, in the last decade has been rife with
numerous examples of corruption and scandal. Many modern
organizations, with their instances of management misconduct, have
eroded public faith (such as Enron, WorldCom, Tyco, Adelphia,
Arthur Andersen, Parmalat). It made us realize that there is a
highly active dark side to organizations that is quite unknown in
management studies. However, the majority of the research and
scientific publications on business and education management have
been focusing on the positive, even romantic aspects of the
organizations focusing on leaders' behavior, the analysis of the
positive influence of these behaviours on the members of a given
organization and organizations as a whole. The second reason has to
do with the fact that research on the ""dark side "" is emerging in
the area of Business and Higher Education Management and should be
communicated. The third reason for the book is one can observe a
significant gap in the market of scientific publications, both
non-serial publications and periodicals in the above discussed
topics. Based on our personal experience, it could be the first
book (and for sure it is one of he few books) on this subject in
the world. The fourth reason is it is virtually impossible to carry
all the works and research on the development of positive, bright
sides of business and higher education without a thorough knowledge
and understanding of the destructive, dark sides of organizations
that have led and still lead to the collapse of many organizations
and a decline in public confidence in the corporations and their
leaders.
