Rather than counterposing interests and ethics, trying to find 'hidden agendas' or emphasizing the double-standards at play in ethical foreign policy, this book brings together leading international theorists, and a variety of stimulating approaches, to develop a critical understanding of the rise of ethical foreign policy, and to analyze the limits of ethical policy-making on its own terms. In den Diskussionen um eine neue Weltordnung, die Konsequenzen der wirt schaftlichen Globalisierung und neue soziale Konfliktfelder gewinnt der Streit um biologische Ressourcen zunehmend an Bedeutung. Diese Ressour cen sind von beachtlichem Wert vor allem fur diejenigen Industriezweige, die neuerdings unter dem Stichwort "Li fe Sciences" und mit den Mitteln der modernen Biotechnologien die Bereiche Gesundheit und Ernahrung als zen trale Investitionsfelder der Zukunft entdeckt haben. Einrichtungen wie die Organisation fur wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (OECD) oder das Umweltprogramm der Vereinten Nationen (UNEP) beschaftigen sich seit einigen Jahren ausgiebig mit der Berechnung des wirtschaftlichen Werts von Tropenwaldern, Tierarten, Blutenpflanzen, unterschiedlichen Bo denkulturen und allen Arten von Gewassern.
