This book breaks the boundaries of the single enterprise, proposing
the symbiotic business model, and discussing business model design
engineering as well as other new concepts, methods and ideas.
Business models are not only dependent on business intuition, but
also on systematic design and continuous upgrade. This book
presents qualitative methods, such as the theory and principles of
business model design; quantitative methods, for example the
business-model based "Accounting Method"; and the "Financial
Analysis Method," based on the business ecosystem. These methods
help entrepreneurs and managers design better business models to
further develop enterprises and make them more successful.

This book introduces the design and implementation of an assessment
model for a new university-level English curriculum in China that
aims at developing digital literacy skills. The assessment
approach, embedded in the curriculum of an online modular course at
Peking University, requires the students to conduct semester-long
digital research projects in English in their major fields of
study. Combining quantitative and qualitative methods, evaluation
rubrics built around Content, Clarity, and Creative/Critical
Thinking were developed, evaluated, and refined over three
implementation cycles (eight semesters). The book presents a
systematic assessment design framework, a set of effective rubrics
for evaluating the digital research project, and authentic examples
of written and multimedia presentations by Chinese students.
Integrating assessment with instruction and technology, the book
provides a valuable practical guide to digital literacy assessment
for English education in the Outer and Expanding Circle contexts.
The monograph presents new findings and perspectives in the study
of variation in metonymy, both theoretical and methodological.
Theoretically, it sheds light on metonymy from an onomasiological
perspective, which helps to discover the different conceptual or
lexical "pathways" through which a concept or a group of concepts
has been designated by going back to the source concepts. In
addition, it broadens the perspective of Cognitive Linguistics
research on metonymy by looking into how metonymic
conceptualization and usage may vary along various dimensions.
Three case studies explore significant variation in metonymy across
different languages, time periods, genres and social lects.
Methodologically, the monograph responds to the call in Cognitive
Linguistics to adopt usage-based empirical methodologies. The case
studies show that quantification and statistical techniques
constitute essential parts of an empirical analysis based on corpus
data. The empirical findings demonstrate the essential need to
extend research on metonymy in a variationist Cognitive Linguistics
direction by studying metonymy's cultural, historical and
social-lectal variation.
This book introduces comprehensive fundamentals, numerical
simulations and experimental methods of electrification of
particulates entrained multiphase flows. The electrifications of
two particulate forms, liquid droplets and solid particles, are
firstly described together. Liquid droplets can be charged under
preset or associated electric fields, while solid particles can be
charged through contact. Different charging ways in gas
(liquid)-liquid or gas-solid multiphase flows are summarized,
including ones that are beneficial to industrial processes, such as
electrostatic precipitation, electrostatic spraying, and
electrostatic separation, etc., ones harmful for shipping and
powder industry, and ones occurring in natural phenomenon, such as
wind-blown sand and thunderstorm. This book offers theoretical
references to the control and utilization of the charging or
charged particulates in multiphase flows as well.

This book mainly focuses on defining profit models, on how many
main kinds of profit models there are, how profit models can change
a company, and how to tailor a profit model to the needs of a
certain company. In this context, profit models are classified as
fixed-income, remaining-profit and profit-sharing, admission, toll,
parking, fuel and sharing fees, profit sources, customer pricing,
auction, combined pricing, etc. The logic behind all these profit
models will be analyzed in detail and numerous micro-cases will be
introduced. All of the micro-cases discussed are the best profit
model practices used by outstanding enterprises, mainly from China
and the USA (including HomeAway, Priceline, Tencent, Sina, Google,
the Voice of China, CSPN and so on). These models will be
complemented by a wealth of figures and additional tools to help
readers better understand the principle of profit models. As such,
the book not only explains "why" entrepreneurs preferred to apply a
specific kind of profit model and not others, but also answers
"how" they derived that model.
This book focuses on how to promote cross-border economic
cooperation in the context of China national strategy including
BRI. This book summarizes the existing regional economic
development theories and sorts out the relevant theories of
cross-border economic cooperation. Then, it analyzes the industrial
development of China's southwestern border and neighboring
countries, the main reasons of rural household poverty in the
border ethnic areas by means of empirical methods, and proposes
corresponding policy implications. Also, it explores the current
border investment and trade policies of China, and compares the
similarities and differences between China and Vietnam, and Laos
and Myanmar.
This is a book of China's own political narrative written by one of
China's leading and best-known thinkers. It is the last part of the
author's 'China Trilogy', which is a best-seller in China, with
over one million copies sold. The book in itself is a centerpiece
of the unfolding debate within China on the nature and future of
the country and how it compares with the West. It addresses a
hugely important issue of the day, i.e., in what way China is
overtaking or may overtake the United States as the world's
preeminent power. The author provides an original and
thought-provoking study on how China has managed, through its own
development model, to catch up and even surpass, to various
extents, the United States, in terms of gross GDP, net household
assets and social protection. The book elaborates on how China has
engaged itself in reshaping its institutions to ensure its smooth
rise, drawing on the strengths of its own traditions, socialist
legacies and elements from the West. It analyzes the weakness of
the Western political institutions and discusses how China has
developed its own institutional edge over the West. The author
argues that as a civilizational state, China has evolved a logic of
its own for development and its own political discourse which
questions seriously many Western assumptions about democracy, good
governance and universal values. The book recaptures the essence of
China's past glory and discusses the horizon of the Chinese dream
as well as how China should meet the various challenges ahead. It
offers a unique and original perspective on the future of this
coming superpower. Like The China Wave, this book is both
discerning and provocative, and serves as a required reading for
everyone concerned with the rise of China and its global
implications.
Linear Systems: Non-Fragile Control and Filtering presents the
latest research results and a systematic approach to designing
non-fragile controllers and filters for linear systems. The authors
combine the algebraic Riccati technique, the linear matrix
inequality (LMI) technique, and the sensitivity analysis method to
establish a set of new non-fragile (insensitive) control methods.
This proposed method can optimize the closed-loop system
performance and make the designed controllers or filters tolerant
of coefficient variations in controller or filter gain matrices. A
Systematic Approach to Designing Non-Fragile Controllers and
Filters for Linear Systems The text begins with developments and
main research methods in non-fragile control. It then
systematically presents novel methods for non-fragile control and
filtering of linear systems with respect to additive/multiplicative
controller/filter gain uncertainties. The book introduces the
algebraic Riccati equation technique to solve
additive/multiplicative norm-bounded controller/filter gain
uncertainty, and proposes a structured vertex separator to deal
with the numerical problem resulting from interval-bounded
coefficient variations. It also explains how to design insensitive
controllers and filters in the framework of coefficient sensitivity
theory. Throughout, the book includes numerical examples to
demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design methods. More
Effective Design Methods for Non-Fragile Controllers and Filters
The design and analysis tools described will help readers to better
understand and analyze parameter uncertainties and to design more
effective non-fragile controllers and filters. Providing a coherent
approach, this book is a valuable reference for researchers,
graduate students, and anyone who wants to explore the area of
non-fragile control and filtering.
First published in 1996. Is ideology still relevant in post-Mao
China? Deng Xiaoping's wide-ranging economic reforms have led to
declarations that ideology in China is merely a cynical sham or
already dead, but a closer look at China seems to suggest a
constant conflict of different ideologies associated with the
profound transformation of the Chinese society since 1978. This
study is an attempt to explore the interactions between major
ideological currents and economic reforms.
A common assumption about cities throughout the world is that they are essentially an elaboration of the Euro-American model. Postcolonial Urbanism demonstrates the narrowness of this vision. The book shows that cities in the postcolonial world are producing novel forms of urbanism not reducible to Western models. Despite being heavily colonized in the past, Southeast Asia has been largely ignored in discussions about postcolonial theory in general considerations of global urbanism. An international cast of contributors focuses on the heavily urbanized world region of Southeast Asia to investigate the novel forms of urbanism germinating in postcolonial settings such as Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Hanoi and the Philippines. Offering a mix of theoretical perspectives and empirical accounts, Postcolonial Urbanism presents a panoramic view of the cultures, societies and politics of the postcolonial city.

We cannot afford to miss the remarkable rise of Chinese business
ecosystems. Alibaba and their peers Baidu, Tencent, Xiaomi, and
LeEco showcase unprecedented growth and success in China and are
expanding their impact globally. With a combined market
capitalization of close to 600 billion USD, incubating over 1,000
new ventures and an average annual growth of over 50%, they have
become a force to reckon with for the likes of Google, Microsoft,
Apple, Amazon, and IBM. 'Business ecosystem' is a frequently used
concept to describe the unique competitive advantages of the
American technology giants. This book explores not only the
application of a business ecosystem approach in the Chinese context
but also deals with the key strategic question: How did these five
Chinese business ecosystems grow so rapidly and successfully? The
book takes the growth and transformation of Alibaba's business
ecosystem as a focus case in comparison with Baidu, Tencent,
Xiaomi, and LeEco. These business ecosystems developed in less than
20 years and transformed from organic growth to rapid expansion by
investment and acquisition, entrepreneurship and incubation of new
ventures, continuous innovation, and internationalization. This
book brings insights and practical lessons on leading, creating,
and disrupting markets for corporate executives and professionals
in global business, a comparative case study for researchers and
students of management, and food for thought on Chinese ways of
doing business.
