For most people, creating a garden, or caring for and nurturing a garden, is of far greater significance than just gardening itself. Modern-day gardens tend to be more personalised as an expression of individual lifestyle choices. However, with so much information available on the broad subject of gardening and what to plant, it's not surprising that many garden lovers feel intimidated and choose the route of blissful ignorance, while all the time wishing there had been an accessible way of knowing how to do it right the first time.
When the former assassin, Zikhona, wakes up next to a dead body in an affluent Johannesburg suburb, she knows of only one person who can clean up her mess, uncle Zenzele. The incident unravels ghosts of the past, forcing the Z Gang to crawl out of their Mozambican hideout. It is not only Zikhona’s situation that is intricate but the gang’s wealth back home is threatened by the torching of their taxis. They are also about to lose their millions through the elaborate laundering syndicate of a murderous underworld mobster while also nursing a terminally-ill member. Zenzele resorts to the only thing he knows best – guns, treachery and dark powers – while unleashing his battle-hardened gang to fend off the police and the underworld mobsters chasing Zikhona hell-bent on forcing her back into her contract-killing past. Her marriage to a flamboyant Nigerian pastor hits the skids. With fewer friends and desperate to save their millions, Zenzele is forced to tap deep into the reserves of old connections, where loyalties still hold. His knack to keep everyone in his debt reaches its pinnacle. Staying alive would take ingenuity, conniving, outsmarting the SAPS crime intelligence and a Police Minister, desperate to save his political career. However, discovering that their enemies are closer to home than they had thought is the ultimate betrayal.
Dov Fedler was a "laatlammetjie", born and bred in Johannesburg in 1940 just as Hitler was getting into his stride. A third child was not on his parents' "want-list". It was hard enough supporting two much older children and a printing business struggling to exist. When Dov was about three his mother had a "nervous breakdown" which is when he remembers seeing his first pencil and knowing precisely what it was that he wanted to do with his life. There are no coincidences in Dov's life. He believes that a hand of destiny has steered his path towards becoming a leading South African cartoonist for more than 45 years. Many dramatic encounters (not with aliens or spirits, but with everyday people) have shaped him and he wouldn't have missed any of it. Dov's story is intensely personal and honest, with a powerful combination of humour, emotion and community history. OUt Of Line attempts to do a few short things. It is an autobiography but it is also an attempt to capture a particular history of a specific generation; that of the Jewish baby boomers who descended from mainly Lithuanian stock.

It’s been one helluva year – again. We’ve seen Zuma resign as president, the DA go after its own people, Trump exercise his megalomania, the rise of racial tensions (as well as the petrol price) and tempers being flared. All while the Guptas fled the Saxonwold Shebeen. Who better to make sense of this than Zapiro, political analyst, cartoonist and agent provocateur. He has the ability to knock the air out of us, to rock us back in our seats, to force us bolt upright with a 1000-watt jolt of electrifying shock. He makes us angry, he makes us laugh and he makes us think. He shines a light on the elephant in the room, presents the emperor in all his naked glory. Impossible to brush off, he is determined to provoke a response. When all around is crumbling, when fake news and zipped lips conceal the truth, Zapiro comes to the rescue. With the dissecting eye of a surgeon, the rapier-like point of his pen exposes flimflam, and reveals with a single line what lies behind the action.

A prisoner in a WWII concentration camp discovers a superpower that could keep him alive – he can make the commandant laugh by telling jokes. Pushed to ends of his wit and humanity, Gagman is propelled into a spiralling madness in which he would sell his soul for a gag simply to live another day. Evoking themes from The Tattooist of Auschwitz and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, Dov Fedler weaves the story of a Faustian bargain brokered in hell, where redemption only comes in the form of a punchline. He must stay funny – or die. Enhanced by Fedler’s own haunting illustrations, Gagman masterfully juxtaposes humour and pathos, while exploring themes of survivor guilt, desperate determination and the search for the meaning of life in the wake of the Holocaust. Swapping his yellow star for a tattered comic book, Gagman roams the new world and our consciousness determined to find answers to the deepest questions about loss, hope and belonging. Gagman is a touching and unique tale of survival through unimaginable horror.

Presenting ultrasound pathology from a clinical perspective, this unique resource discusses various pathologies that may be related to a patient's symptoms and features illustrations with ultrasound scans that demonstrate each pathology. Organized into four major sections - abdomen, obstetrics, gynecology, and superficial structures - each symptom is presented in its own chapter along with key terms, an introductory paragraph, a clinical scenario, discussions of pathologies, illustrations, and patient scenarios. Instructor resources are available; please contact your Elsevier sales representative for details. "This book covers a wide range of ultrasound examinations looking at the clinical question first. It is written for sonographers and student sonographers by two Academics and a sonographer. Because this book is written by American authors some terminology will be incorrect in the UK setting. [...] However, as long as the reader is aware of this, most Ultrasound Departments will find this a useful resource to have on their shelves and use for CPD." Reviewed by: Allison Harris, Clinical Co-Ordinator, City University London, Date: Oct 14 "I really like the design and clinical focus of this book and believe that it will stimulate critical thinking among its transatlantic target audience. For UK readers, though, I feel it has less appeal." In this edition the organising construct is the application of knowledge, field research writing is introduced, and field research writing is integrated with literature research writing.
