Do Greater Things - Activating the Kingdom to Heal the Sick and Love the Lost (Paperback): Robby Dawkins, Shawn Bolz Do Greater Things - Activating the Kingdom to Heal the Sick and Love the Lost (Paperback)
Robby Dawkins, Shawn Bolz
R302 Discovery Miles 3 020 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

How to Heal the Sick, Cast Out Demons, Raise the Dead--and More! The Bible says that if you belong to Jesus, you have the power to: * heal the sick * cast out demons * bring deliverance to those trapped in spiritual darkness * prophesy in his name * call forth creative miracles * receive supernatural words of wisdom and knowledge * even raise the dead So why do so many Christians live powerless lives? Why do they operate with so little faith? Having gone through his own journey from doubt to belief, Chicagoland pastor Robby Dawkins now ministers and speaks internationally, and where he goes, miracles happen. In these pages he shares incredible stories of God using ordinary people to do the impossible. And he shows that, when you begin to have faith in the power of God, take him at his Word, and understand his love for you, you will see his power released in healings, financial blessings, and miracles of all kinds.

Evangelism Made Slightly Less Difficult (Paperback, New edition): Nick Pollard Evangelism Made Slightly Less Difficult (Paperback, New edition)
Nick Pollard

Our evangelistic attempts can seem quite odd to a watching world. Most people today are not the slightest bit interested in hearing about Jesus. They tell us they are quite happy as they are, thank you very much. This book explains why such people think like this - and provides practical guidance on how we can reach them. It demonstrates ways in which we can help people to want to find out about Jesus, how we can then share the relevance of the gospel with them, how we can answer their difficult questions and, ultimately, how we can lead them in their first steps of faith in Christ. Evangelism is difficult. It always will be. But Nick's thoughtful and imaginative approach, irrepressible humour and infectious enthusiasm will certainly help to make it slightly less difficult.

The Message of Discipleship - Authentic Followers Of Jesus In Today's World (Paperback): Peter Morden The Message of Discipleship - Authentic Followers Of Jesus In Today's World (Paperback)
Peter Morden

Soon after Jesus began his public ministry, he called his first `disciples'. He would teach and train them and then, after his death and resurrection, commission and empower them to go to the `nations' to make more `followers' of himself. The risen Jesus is still calling and sending disciples today. If we heed his call the result can be just as transformative and as exciting as it was for the first disciples. While there are no explicit occurrences of the term `disciple' outside the Gospels and Acts, with only two further biblical references to `followers' of Jesus, it is Peter Morden's conviction that we need the whole Bible if we are going to be whole-life disciples. He reflects on Scripture and asks the primary question, `How do we live as committed disciples of Jesus today?' He explores the foundations, the resources and the practice of discipleship, from a range of Old and New Testament texts. The result is a well-rounded and satisfying picture of Christian discipleship, one that is wonderfully attractive as well as deeply challenging.

They were not professionals. They were not celebrities. We don't even know their names. We know very little about them, except that they were everyday people who were drawn to Jesus. When Jesus asked them to join him in his mission, they stepped up, answered the call, and went out in his name. And amazing things happened as a result. They were the 72. Pastor and evangelist John Teter explains how Jesus trains ordinary people to accomplish an extraordinary mission. He unpacks the story of the sending of the 72 to reveal how they were equipped in evangelism and discovered opportunities to herald God's kingdom in concrete and tangible ways. Filled with vivid stories of Teter's remarkable experiences in ministry and church planting, this book shows how we can live out God's call and witness the transformation of those around us. You too have been called by Jesus. Discover how God empowers you to play your part. Welcome to the 72.

Through the Eyes of Christmas - Keys to Unlocking the Spirit of Christmas in Your Heart (Paperback): Ron Davis Through the Eyes of Christmas - Keys to Unlocking the Spirit of Christmas in Your Heart (Paperback)
Ron Davis
R256 Discovery Miles 2 560 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Through the Eyes of Christmas: Keys to unlocking the spirit of Christmas in your heart by Ron Davis. How will you get into the Christmas spirit this year? Each December, most of us face that same question as we prepare to celebrate Christmas. Whether we will admit it to ourselves or not, we all yearn for true Christmas spirit in our hearts and homes each year. We want our Christmas to be one of peace on earth and goodwill towards men just as the angel announced to the shepherds. But after the shopping, wrapping, and relatives, often our Christmas experience is far from peaceful and there is little goodwill to go around. We pull out the same decorations, put up the same tree in the same corner, with the same wreath on the same front door. We do the same Christmas stuff in the same Christmas way as last year and wonder why we get the same result-no lasting Christmas joy. Is true Christmas spirit a myth? Or, have we become so preoccupied with the hustle and bustle of the season that we unwittingly buy the secularized version of Christmas? It is only then that we discover the substitute the retailers are selling has no real Christmas spirit. Our disappointment is that we do Christmas things but still fail to see Christmas spirit in our hearts. So how do you find Christmas spirit? What are the keys to unlocking Christmas spirit in our hearts? Pastors must ask those same questions as they prepare their Christmas sermons. Recent research tells us that 90% of Americans celebrate Christmas, but over half have forgotten why. A majority of Americans now celebrate Christmas as primarily a cultural holiday, rather than recognizing the real reason for the season. Less than half of the millennials surveyed said they were planning to attend religious services on Christmas. What are Pastors going to preach Christmas Sunday that is inspired and anointed? And after 2,000 years, what can they possibly say that is fresh, relevant, and will make a real difference in the lives of their parishioners? To avoid losing the real meaning of Christmas, Pastors need to remind their people of the true purpose the coming of Christmas has for our lives. They must rediscover the spirit of Christmas in their hearts. But how? Through the Eyes of Christmas reveals the keys to unlocking Christmas spirit in your heart. By looking deep into the lives of the first Christmas participants, the book refocuses our vision to see Christmas from a fresh perspective. What were Mary and Joseph focused on that first Christmas night? When we relive Christmas by looking through the eyes of Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, the wise men and all of the other well-known (and some not so well-known) characters of the Christmas story, we discover what they were focused on. We see the Biblical truths their stories reveal. That brings the true, lasting joy of Christmas spirit into our lives. When those truths are applied to your life, it will be said of you as it was of Charles Dicken's Ebenezer Scrooge, "...he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge." Order Ron Davis' compelling and well-written book Through the Eyes of Christmas now to make this Christmas your best Christmas ever!

Outreach Magazine Resource of the Year Foreword INDIES Award Finalist For a generation or so, society has tried to be colorblind. People say they don't see race. But this approach has limitations. In our broken world, ethnicity and racial identity are often points of pain and injustice. We can't ignore that God created us with our ethnic identities. We bring all of who we are, including our ethnicity and cultural background, to our identity and work as God's ambassadors. Ethnicity and evangelism specialist Sarah Shin reveals how our brokenness around ethnicity can be restored and redeemed, for our own wholeness and also for the good of others. When we experience internal transformation in our ethnic journeys, God propels us outward in a reconciling witness to the world. Ethnic healing can demonstrate God's power and goodness and bring good news to others. Showing us how to make space for God's healing of our ethnic stories, Shin helps us grow in our crosscultural skills, manage crosscultural conflict, pursue reconciliation and justice, and share the gospel as ethnicity-aware Christians. Jesus offers hope for healing, both for ourselves and for society. Discover how your ethnic story can be transformed for compelling witness and mission.

When the first disciples went out into all the world to spread the gospel, they didn't just make converts--they made more disciples, people who would grow in the faith and then go out to make disciples as well. Their world was a lot like ours, filled with skeptics, idolatry, and opposition, but also with hurting people whom God had already prepared to hear, learn, and be transformed. In the pattern of his bestselling book The Master Plan of Evangelism, author Robert E. Coleman offers a close examination of how Jesus made disciples and how his followers did the same throughout the book of Acts. Coleman then shows how to apply these methods to the modern church, which creates actual sustained church growth rather than simply a temporary boost in numbers. Pastors, church leaders, and those involved in teaching and discipling believers will find this book to be an invaluable resource to equip the saints, build fellowship, and grow their ministry.

Who Is Jesus? Study Guide (Paperback): Louie Giglio Who Is Jesus? Study Guide (Paperback)
Louie Giglio
R241 Discovery Miles 2 410 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Who is Jesus? Some people say he was a good man, a prophet, or a wise teacher.

Some think he was a lunatic with delusions of divinity-if he even existed at all. Some say he was a liar bent on deceiving the world. Still others say he was the Son of God, the Lord. History, culture, and the Bible all agree that all of life centers on our answer to this question: Who is Jesus?

In this five-session video Bible study (DVD/downloads sold separately), Pastor Louie Giglio invites group members to meet God both in their intellect and their hearts by uncovering what history and Scripture have to say about Jesus. He encourages believers in Christ to ask the tough questions as to whether Jesus is truly God, truly a friend who loves us, and truly the King of kings. He encourages believers to explore whether Jesus is really the only way to God-as many people in our post-modern world doubt today-and whether his sacrifice on the cross truly provides the means for us to reconcile with God and experience eternal life.

This study is for everyone who has ever wondered whether Jesus is truly everything he said he was in the Bible. It will not only help new believers in Christ understand their faith, but also help those who have known Jesus for many years to have a better understanding of what they believe. And it will also help followers of Christ know how to better share the truth they have found with others.

Social Conflicts and Violence among Christian Churches and Denominations in Igboland (Hardcover, New edition): Damian Emeka... Social Conflicts and Violence among Christian Churches and Denominations in Igboland (Hardcover, New edition)
Damian Emeka Ikejiama
R1,825 Discovery Miles 18 250 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book is about the dangers of religious intolerance, conflict and violence oriented strategies in our contemporary society. It exposes the evangelical strategies of Christian Churches and Denominations in the Nigerian society. The process of the enthronement of 'prosperity theology' has led to manipulation of individuals and events through demonization, deliverance, organized healings and miracles. This type of Christianity destroys religious values and exposes the society to the danger of materialism. Christian Churches should be advocates of empowerment, freedom and dignity instead of victimization of its members. This study argues that authentic Christian witnessing can only be achieved through holistic and proper integration of its teachings into socio-cultural values of its local setting. It insists that religion should enhance good core values and not destroy it. It critically analyses the elemental causes of conflict and violence in Igboland and concludes by making recommendations towards a peaceful society.

The transition from apartheid to the post-apartheid era has highlighted questions about the past and the persistence of its influence in present-day South Africa. This is particularly so in education, where the past continues to play a decisive role in relation to inequality. Between Worlds: German Missionaries and the Transition from Mission to Bantu Education in South Africa scrutinises the experience of a hitherto unexplored German mission society, probing the complexities and paradoxes of social change in education. It raises challenging questions about the nature of mission education legacies. Linda Chisholm shows that the transition from mission to Bantu Education was far from seamless. Instead, past and present interpenetrated one another, with resistance and compliance cohabiting in a complex new social order. At the same time as missionaries complied with the new Bantu Education dictates, they sought to secure a role for themselves in the face of demands of local communities for secular state-controlled education. When the latter was implemented in a perverted form from the mid-1950s, one of its tools was textbooks in local languages developed by mission societies as part of a transnational project, with African participation. Introduced under the guise of expunging European control, Bantu Education merely served to reinforce such control. The response of local communities was an attempt to domesticate - and master - the 'foreign' body of the mission so as to create access to a larger world. This book focuses on the ensuing struggle, fought on many fronts, including medium of instruction and textbook content, with concomitant sub-texts relating to gender roles and sexuality. South Africa's educational history is to this day informed by networks of people and ideas crossing geographic and racial boundaries. The colonial legacy has inevitably involved cultural mixing and hybridisation - with, paradoxically, parallel pleas for purity. Chisholm explores how these ideas found expression in colliding and coalescing worlds, one African, the other European, caught between mission and apartheid education.

Evangelicalism is now so divided that some would question whether the word is even worth using. Is there real common ground which can hold us together? This heartfelt appeal from John Stott shows that there is. Distilling decades of reflection on Christian discipleship he shows the Trinitarian heart of evangelical faith: the gracious initiative of God the Father, in revealing himself to us; of Jesus Christ, in redeeming us through his cross and resurrection; and of the indwelling Holy Spirit in transforming us. The threefold emphasis of evangelical faith is upon the Word of God, the once-for-all work of Christ, and the active, continuing work of the Spirit. Directing us away from our differences, he reminds us of the glorious work of Father, Son and Spirit which unites us all.

Christianity, Islam, and Liberal Democracy - Lessons from Sub-Saharan Africa (Hardcover): Robert A Dowd Christianity, Islam, and Liberal Democracy - Lessons from Sub-Saharan Africa (Hardcover)
Robert A Dowd
R3,483 Discovery Miles 34 830 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Drawing from research conducted in Nigeria, Senegal, and Uganda, Christianity, Islam, and Liberal Democracy offers a deeper understanding on how Christian and Islamic faith communities affect the political attitudes of those who belong to them and, in turn, prospects for liberal democracy. While many analysts have thought that religious diversity in developing countries is most often an obstacle to liberal democracy that creates political instability, the book concludes just the opposite. Robert A. Dowd draws on narrative accounts, in-depth interviews, and large-scale surveys to show that Christian and Islamic religious communities are more likely to support liberal democracy in religiously diverse and integrated settings than in religiously homogeneous or segregated settings. Religious diversity, in other words, is good for liberal democracy. In religiously diverse environments, religious leaders tend to be more encouraging of civic engagement, democracy, and religious liberty. The evidence, Dowd argues, should prompt policymakers interested in cultivating religiously-inspired support for liberal democracy to aid in the formation of religiously diverse neighborhoods, cities, and political organizations.

Go and do. Jesus commands it, and the world needs it. Word and deed go together. One without the other is not enough. We follow Jesus into all the world, and we follow his example in all we do. Mission mobilizer Paul Borthwick shows how proclamation and demonstration of the gospel go hand in hand. God gives us the Great Commission, Matthew 28's call to go wherever Jesus sends us, making disciples and proclaiming good news to all nations. And we become people of his Great Compassion, Matthew 25's vision for treating others as we would treat Jesus himself, caring for the needy and living justly. Borthwick offers practical ways for us to live out the Great Commission and Great Compassion in every sphere of our lives. Holistic discipleship means learning and looking, praying and giving, welcoming the stranger, simplifying our lives and standing with and for others on God's behalf. Small steps can make a big difference in the mission of God. Will you answer the call?

God's mission needs movement leaders. Jesus pioneered something completely new in human history-a dynamic missionary movement intent on reaching the world. His mission is as clear and as relevant today as in the days of the early church: to make disciples everywhere, baptizing them and teaching them to obey everything Jesus has commanded. But the potential of the church remains untapped. What does it take to lead movements that successfully carry out this mission? In Pioneering Movements, Steve Addison identifies what it takes to follow Jesus' example. Building on his previous books Movements That Change the World and What Jesus Started, he reveals the apostolic qualities and behaviors of biblical, historical, and contemporary pioneers who can guide church and ministry leaders today. This is a book for those who are called to embrace the mission-driven work that Jesus and his disciples began-making disciples of all nations, in all places.

2016 IVP Readers' Choice Award Many people have given up on the church. But that doesn't mean that they've given up on God or Christianity. In many cases, it was merely that local church congregations were not the best context for missional people to live out their sense of God's call. The good news is that God is raising up vibrant movements of Christians in a vast array of vocations around the world: disciple-making ministries, missions, relief and development, social activism, advocacy and much more. These are all strategic ways to live for the kingdom-in venues beyond the local church. Wherever movements of the gospel have occurred, visionary people and apostolic structures have been essential. Mission leader Sam Metcalf shows how God has always worked through entrepreneurial individuals and organizations that launched out in fresh ways. He gives biblical and missiological foundations for missional movements, showing that what has often been called "parachurch" is an equally valid manifestation of the church. Affirming the strengths of apostolic personalities, Metcalf shows how they can be deployed to cross cultural barriers, renew secular societies and transform the nations with the power of the gospel. God may be inviting you to join what he is doing around the world. Answer the call and discover how God can use you beyond your imagination.
