Commissioned in 1975 by Thomas Nelson, 130 international and
multi-denominational Bible scholars, church leaders, and lay
Christians worked for seven years to create a completely new,
modern translation of Scripture that retained the purity and
stylistic beauty of the King James Version. The New King James
Version is faithful to the original Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic
text, and provides transparency to the recent research in
archaeology, linguistics, and textual studies in the footnotes. The
result is a Bible translation that is both beautiful and
uncompromising-perfect for serious study, devotional use, and
reading aloud.
The canon for Catholic social teaching spreads to six hundred
pages, yet fewer than two pages are devoted to Catholic social
learning or pedagogy. In this long-needed book, Roger Bergman
begins to correct that gross imbalance. He asks: How do we educate
("lead out") the faith that does justice? How is commitment to
social justice provoked and sustained over a lifetime? To address
these questions, Bergman weaves what he has learned from thirty
years as a faith-that-does-justice educator with the best of
current scholarship and historical authorities. He reflects on
personal experience; the experience of Church leaders, lay
activists, and university students; and the few words the tradition
itself has to say about a pedagogy for justice. Catholic Social
Learning explores the foundations of this pedagogy, demonstrates
its practical applications, and illuminates why and how it is
fundamental to Catholic higher education. Part I identifies
personal encounters with the poor and marginalized as key to
stimulating a hunger and thirst for justice. Part II presents three
applications of Catholic social learning: cross-cultural immersion
as illustrated by Creighton University's Semestre Dominicano
program; community-based service learning; and the teaching of
moral exemplars such as Dorothy Day, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.,
and Archbishop Oscar Romero. Part III then elucidates how a
pedagogy for justice applies to the traditional liberal educational
mission of the Catholic university, and how it can be put into
action. Catholic Social Learning is both a valuable, practical
resource for Christian educators and an important step forward in
the development of a transformative pedagogy.
In this six-session small group Bible study, pastor and
bestselling author Timothy Keller uses one of Jesus best-loved
parables the Prodigal Son to illustrate the depth of God s love and
how his grace extends into some very unexpected places.
Taking you beyond the traditional focus on the wayward younger
son, Keller helps you glean insights from each of the characters in
Jesus' parable: the irreligious younger son, the moralistic elder
son, and the Father who lavishes his love on both. Inside this
guide, you'll explore questions for group discussion and personal
reflection, and exercises that will help you experience the truths
of Jesus' parable in your own life. The gospel is neither religion
nor irreligion, but something else entirely. Whether you're a
devout believer or a skeptic, The Prodigal God will challenge you
to see Christianity in a whole new way.
This Prodigal God Discussion Guide will help you uncover,
personalize, and apply life-changing insights from The Prodigal God
DVD and book. In six captivating sessions, pastor and New York
Times bestselling author Timothy Keller opens your eyes to the
powerful message of Jesus' best known and least understood parable.
The Prodigal God is a revelation of the very heart of the gospel:
God's radical love for sinners of every kind.
This Discussion Guide is designed for use together with The
Prodigal God DVD and book (both sold separately). Includes
discussion questions for groups and individuals, suggested
resources for further reading, Scripture references, helpful notes
for leaders, and much more. When used together with the DVD this
study provides users with practical tools that transform their
faith.

1. The Parable The People Around Jesus
2. The Two Lost Sons
3. The Elder Brother
4. The True Elder Brother
5. The Feast of the Father"
Justin Martyr (c.100-165) was one of the key apologists of the
Early Church. Oxford Early Christian Texts presents a new critical
edition of the Greek text of the Apologies with introduction,
English translation, and textual commentary.
Editors Denis Minns and Paul Parvis take a searching look at the
text transmitted by the single fourteenth-century manuscript
containing the works of Justin. They attempt to see behind the work
of the Byzantine editor, and his predecessors, who sought to make
sense of the badly damaged text before them. The commentary is
designed not merely to annotate the text but to identify and draw
out Justin's train of thought and the structure of his argument. It
explains the readings adopted in the text by setting Justin's Greek
within his Christian, Hellenistic, and philosophical contexts.
The introduction traces the complex history of the text in
manuscript and print and discusses the puzzling relationship of the
Second Apology to the First, and suggests a new solution. Justin is
located against the background of the diversity of Christianity in
the second century. A new understanding of Justin emerges from this
work. His thought is often sharper, and his language more pointed
than has been recognised, and the difficulty of the task he set
himself of bridging the enormous gap between two cultures is
clearly shown.

understanding His Word. In Listening to God, Dr. Charles Stanley
presents a sound way to explore God's Word and hear His truths. He

Christianity Today 2020 Book Award Winner (Spiritual Formation)
Outreach 2020 Resource of the Year (Spiritual Growth) Foreword
INDIES 2019 Honorable Mention for Religion This is not a book about
Saint Augustine. In a way, it's a book Augustine has written about
each of us. Popular speaker and award-winning author James K. A.
Smith has spent time on the road with Augustine, and he invites us
to take this journey too, for this ancient African thinker knows
far more about us than we might expect. Following Smith's
successful You Are What You Love, this book shows how Augustine can
be a pilgrim guide to a spirituality that meets the complicated
world we live in. Augustine, says Smith, is the patron saint of
restless hearts--a guide who has been there, asked our questions,
and knows our frustrations and failed pursuits. Augustine spent a
lifetime searching for his heart's true home and he can help us
find our way. "What makes Augustine a guide worth considering,"
says Smith, "is that he knows where home is, where rest can be
found, what peace feels like, even if it is sometimes ephemeral and
elusive along the way." Addressing believers and skeptics alike,
this book shows how Augustine's timeless wisdom speaks to the
worries and struggles of contemporary life, covering topics such as
ambition, sex, friendship, freedom, parenthood, and death. As Smith
vividly and colorfully brings Augustine to life for 21st-century
readers, he also offers a fresh articulation of Christianity that
speaks to our deepest hungers, fears, and hopes.
Change is so rapid today that leaders must do much more than stay the
course to be
successful. If they aren't nimble and ready to adapt, they won't
survive. The key is to
learn how to leadershift.
In the Leadershift Workbook, which accompanies the book of the same
name,
bestselling author John C. Maxwell will help leaders gain the ability
and willingness to
make leadership changes that will positively enhance their
organizational and personal
growth. He begins by explaining seven principles they need to implement
into their
daily lives so they will be ready to face every situation with
flexibility and confidence:
1. Continually learn, unlearn, and relearn
2. Value yesterday but live in today
3. Rely on speed, but thrive on timing
4. See the big picture as the picture keeps getting bigger
5. Live in today but think about tomorrow
6. Move forward courageously in the midst of uncertainty
7. Realize today's best will not meet tomorrow's challenges
In the remaining lessons in the workbook, Dr. Maxwell shares the eleven
shifts he has
personally made over the course of his long and successful leadership
career. He
explains how each of these shifts changed his trajectory and set him up
for new and
exciting achievements, ultimately strengthening and sustaining his
leadership abilities
and making him the admired leadership expert he is today. He concludes
by
challenging readers to implement these "leadershifts" in their lives
and see how these
principles change the way they think, act, and ultimately lead so they
can be
successful in an ever-changing world.
How to serve with generosity and love. Service is giving, and
giving is the very essence of the gospel. God gave His only
begotten Son. Jesus gave His life on the cross. The Holy Spirit
gives us the power to resist sin and follow God's commands. It is
from this abundance of what we have been given that God calls us to
freely give ourselves-to actually develop a mindset in which we
look first to the needs of others above our own interests. In
Developing a Servant's Heart, Dr. Charles Stanley shows how each of
us have been equipped, empowered, and charged to do this as we
follow the example of Jesus-the Supreme Servant. With over 1
million copies sold, the Charles F. Stanley Bible Study Series is a
unique approach to Bible study, incorporating biblical truth,
personal insights, emotional responses, and a call to action. Each
study draws on Dr. Stanley's many years of teaching the guiding
principles found in God's Word, showing how we can apply them in
practical ways to every situation we face. This edition of the
series has been completely revised and updated, and includes two
brand-new lessons from Dr. Stanley. Each of the twelve lessons
includes: Overview: A brief look at what is covered in the lesson
Life's Questions: A teaching from Dr. Stanley that unpacks the
topic of the lesson Living the Principle: Application and Bible
study questions based on the key points Reflection: Key takeaways
