What "don't" Christians believe? Is Jesus really divine? Is Jesus
really human? Can God suffer? Can people be saved by their own
efforts?
The early church puzzled over these questions, ruling in some
beliefs and ruling out others. "Heresies and How to Avoid Them"
explains the principal ancient heresies and shows why contemporary
Christians still need to know about them. These famous detours in
Christian believing seemed plausible and attractive to many people
in the past, and most can still be found in modern-day guises. By
learning what it is that Christians don't believe--and
why--believers today can gain a deeper, truer understanding of
their faith.
Hoekom is ek so, wat is fout met my? Hoekom straf Hy my so?
This is one in a series of books providing specially retold stories
for young children, sticking closely to the biblical version, but
using simple language. The books are colourfully illustrated
throughout.
In a world in which resources are unjustly distributed, identities
are under threat and solidarity is fragile, the toughest task
facing humanity is the quest for community. Yet the contribution of
the church to that task is undermined because its message and
organization remain stuck in the past. Christians fail to grasp
that in the gifts of the kingdom community - life, liberation, love
and learning - they hold the key to what the search for community
is all about. This book describes those gifts and how a servant
church, through the creation of its diaconate as an order of
mission, might offer a fragmented world new hope. The Methodist
Church in Britain is taken as a model of what could be achieved.

When he talked about the Kingdom of God, Jesus was speaking about
an utterly different way of relating to human society as we know
it. He lays out a blueprint for this new life in his best-known
teaching, the Sermon on the Mount. From the Beatitudes onward, the
Sermon on the Mount overturns conventional wisdom and traditional
power structures, offering a plan for an alternative way of being.
Richard Rohr explores the implications of this vision in Jesus'
Alternative Plan. Going through the teachings of the sermon, he
explains the historical and cultural context of each verse, and
offers guidance for what the sermon means for Christians today. The
result is a clear, yet challenging look at the alternative plan
laid out by Jesus for all to see. This updated edition of Jesus'
Plan for a New World will inspire Christians who long for a
transformative understanding of Jesus' teachings as they seek the
true heart of their faith.
Are you ready to take the next step? Church as we know it is
changing... with conversations and initiatives bubbling up around
how our churches can be truly intergenerational, functioning in
close and loving community as the body of Christ. Eleanor Bird
speaks into the debate with a challenge to rethink our work with
all ages from the ground up, offering practical observations drawn
from her experience of developing children's and youth ministry in
a local church context, together with a biblically based framework
for how this thinking can be taken forward in your church. 'In
order for us to see nations changed, we need to see the full body
of Christ rise up together across all ages, to walk and minister
shoulder to shoulder. Blended invites us to see that it is not only
necessary, but possible. No matter what size community or
denomination we belong to, this book gives us ways of seeing and
doing church together with a new heart that will reap great rewards
for the kingdom.' Rachel Turner, author and speaker
