Fine woven wool flannel blanket 2.4mm/1/16thin thick. The woven blanket is more durable and will hold it's shape for longer than a compressed felt. The fronting blanket is designed to lie next to the paper when printing and will soak up water and size from the paper. To protect your blanket please ensure you bevel your metal plates if they are 1mm or thicker. Regular cold/delicate wash with a wool detergent will ensure years of use.

Used for the creation of texture and deep areas of tone on collagraph plates of all types. Can be attached with waterproof PVA, mixed into acrylic mediums to paint onto the plate directly, or combined with other materials on the plate.

Very dark and opaque finish. For use with etching plates, this varnish is appropriate for backing the plate as well as stopping out (i. e concealing) areas of the plate where the etching process is not required.
This tool is used to prepare metal plates for mezzotints. By repeatedly working the tool over the surface of the plate in a rocking motion, the printmaker can create a smooth carpet of burrs, which will hold ink and show up as a dark area when the plate is printed. This rough surface can then be smoothed with a scraper or burnisher, which will lighten the print in those areas.EC Lyons rockers are known world wide as the finest mezzotint rockers available. Lyons rockers have handles of stained birch and a tool surface of high carbon tool steel. The density of teeth for a rocker is measured in LPI or 'tooth count', a measure of the number of lines per inch on the cutting face of the tool. This is a fine gauge rocker with a 2.5 inch blade and a tooth count of 65.Please take care when using this tool near the edge of your plates, as unless you have bevelled the edge of the plate it is possible that the tool may slip off or be damaged by the sharp edge.
E.C. Lyons Roulettes are designed to be used in intaglio printmaking processes. When the rotating drum at the head of the tool is pushed over the plate, it stipples the surface with dots or lines. These small impressions will hold ink and appear darker in the finished print.The density of lines or dots an engraving roulette will produce is expressed in its DPI rating. A higher DPI indicates the lines or dots made by a roulette as it passes over the face of the plate are closer together. This is a fine gauge line roulette of 100 DPI.

Colour: Complex silicate of sodium & aluminum with sulfur (PB 29) Colour Description: Ultra Blue is one of the few mineral colors that is completely transparent. Lightfast with moderate tinting strength.
Copperplate oils are the base carrier or vehicle for traditional printing inks to which pigment is added before grinding to the appropriate consistancy for the various printmaking techniques. Also known as boiled or burnt linseed oil, referring to their traditional method of modification, they are today created in a heated high pressure vessel. The process adds viscosisty and tack to the linseed oil in increasing degrees ranging from weak to strong as heating time is increased. As a rough guide the weaker (thin) to medium oil being the base for intaglio inks and the medium to strong (thick) oil the base for relief and lithographic inks. You can soften and loosen an ink by adding weak thinner oil and increase tack and viscosity by adding stronger thicker oil. Plate oils should be added to inks sparingly, as the detail of a print may be lost if the ink becomes too fluid. Gamblin Burnt Plate Oil Number 2 is a medium oil and is the primary oil binder for Gamblin Etching Inks. |
