Burnishers are used to flatten a section of a metal plate in order to remove engraved or etched patterns and lines. This 'erases' the marks on this area. This ball-burnisher is designed to be used for detailed work. Traditionally used to stiffen ink, Magnesium Carbonate can reduce the gloss level of ink and when added to ink it becomes transparent - there will be no alteration of colour of the ink. It is recommended that it is added in small amounts at a time - little is needed to add body to an ink. Magnesium Carbonate can be used with both Etching and Relief Inks. Mix well and keep away from excessive heat.

Lawrence Gum Arabic Powder is the pulverised version of lump gum arabic, the natural gum formed from the sap of the acacia tree. It is used in painting as a dilutant and medium for watercolour and gouache, increasing their strength, shine, and transparency. Printmakers will use the gum arabic in solution form for lithography processing and making sugarlift for etching.

This combination tool is designed to be used in intaglio printmaking processes.
