From Abracadabra to the now famous spells of the Harry Potter
series, magic words are no longer confined to the practices of
pagans, alchemists, witches, and occultists. They have become part
of the popular imagination of the Western world. Passed down from
ancient Babylon, Egypt, and Greece, these words and the rituals
surrounding them have survived through the millennia because they
work. And as scholar Claude Lecouteux reveals, often the more
impenetrable they seem, the more effective they are. Presenting a
wealth of material on magical words, signs, and charms, both common
and obscure, Lecouteux also explores the magical words and spells
of ancient Scandinavia, the Hispano-Arabic magic of Spain before
the Reconquista, the traditions passed down from ancient Egypt, and
those that have stayed in use until the present day.
An in-depth manual for practicing Fairy Witchcraft including
theology, fairy lore, rituals, holidays, and magical practices.
This book aims to pick up where Pagan Portals - Fairy Witchcraft
leaves off and teach interested people the comprehensive practice
of this system of honoring the Fair Folk and liminal Gods by
blending the old Fairy Faith with modern paganism.
Beneath the psychedelic utopianism of the sixties lay a dark seam of apocalyptic thinking that seemed to rupture into violence and despair by 1969.
Literary and cultural historian James Riley descends into this underworld and traces the historical and conspiratorial threads connecting art, film, poetry, politics, murder and revolt. The Beatles and the Rolling Stones, the Manson Family and Roman Polanski, ley-line hunters and Illuminati believers, Aldous Huxley, Joan Didion and the Beat poets, radical protest movements and occult groups all come together in Riley’s gripping narrative.
Steeped in the hopes, dreams and anxieties of the late 1960s and early ’70s, The Bad Trip tells the strange stories of some of the period’s most compelling figures as they approached the end of an era and imagined new worlds ahead.
Cooper, a former U.S. Naval intelligence briefing team member,
offers this lucid, rational work that reveals secrets kept guarded
by the American government since the 1940s, including the presence
of UFOs, the facts behind the J.F.K. assassination, and more.
A devotional-style book for the modern seeker, intended to help
them remember the divine wisdom they carry within and utilize it to
create a life that is authentic. Are you ready to activate your
inner goddess? 365 Days of Divine Feminine Wisdom is a
devotional-style book for today's spiritual seeker. In it, you will
learn how to deepen your connection with yourself and your
spirituality, discover who you really are, and find the courage to
create a life you love by using your innate gifts and power. Each
daily entry reflects upon the different aspects of Divine Feminine
energy that are always active within us, regardless of age or
experience: the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone. These aspects
are linked to the milestones that we experience throughout our
lives as we get in touch with the goddess within us. These aspects
are also connected to the phases of the moon, as well as to the
seasons. Each daily entry draws wisdom from the three-part feminine
archetype, according to the time of year: January to April provides
inspiration from the Maiden aspect; May to August offers guidance
from the Mother aspect; and September to December reveals knowledge
from the Crone aspect. This helps readers gain a full understanding
of their innate gifts and wisdom, as well the phases they naturally
go through each year as they continue to grow, evolve, and live
their best life.

For the last four centuries, science has tried to account for
everything in terms of atoms and molecules and the physical laws
they adhere to. Recently, this effort was extended to try to
include the inner world of human beings. Gary Lachman argues that
this view of consciousness is misguided and unfounded. He points to
another approach to the study and exploration of consciousness that
erupted into public awareness in the late 1800s. In this "secret
history of consciousness, " consciousness is seen not as a result
of neurons and molecules, but as responsible for them; meaning is
not imported from the outer world, but rather creates it. In this
view, consciousness is a living, evolving presence whose
development can be traced through different historical periods, and
which evolves along a path to a broader, more expansive state. What
that consciousness may be like and how it may be achieved is a
major concern of this book.
Lachman concentrates on the period since the late 1800s, when
Madame Blavatsky first brought the secret history out into the
open. As this history unfolds, we encounter the ideas of many
modern thinkers, from esotericists like P. D. Ouspensky, Rudolf
Steiner, and Colin Wilson to more mainstream philosophers like
Henri Bergson, William James, Owen Barfield and the psychologist
Andreas Mavromatis. Two little known but important thinkers play a
major role in his synthesis -- Jurij Moskvitin, who showed how our
consciousness relates to the mechanisms of perception and to the
external world, and Jean Gebser, who presented perhaps the most
impressive case for the evolution of consciousness.
Standing astride the British landscape, looms the giant blue form
of the Cailleach. Whether she is seen as a benevolent earth-shaping
giantess, harsh winter hag goddess, shape-shifting crone, guardian
of sacred wells and animals, or ancient bestower of sovereignty;
the Cailleach appears in many roles and manifestations in myths and
legends across the British Isles. Tracking the Cailleach across
thousands of years through folklore, literature and place names,
the authors have uncovered startling references which hint at a
hidden priestess cult worshipping the Cailleach from ancient times
through into the twentieth century. By exploring her myths and
legends, they demonstrate the hugely significant role of the
Cailleach in the early history of the British Isles. The
demonization of the Cailleach through the Middle Ages by the
Christian Church paralleled that of women and witches, and is
reflected in various other supernatural hag figures possibly
derived from her and discussed in detail, such as Black Annis, Gyre
Carling, Mia Lia, Nicneven and the Old Woman of the Mountain.
Looking beyond the veil of the sacred landscape, the vision of the
Cailleach confronts the seeker, in hills and rocks, lakes and
wells, burial chambers and stormy skies. Now finally the primal
elemental power of the Cailleach is revealed in her full glory, in
the tales and places of Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man; as
well as in traces of her presence in England, Wales, Jersey,
Brittany, Spain and Norway. This unique and ground-breaking work
brings together for the first time the wealth of folklore, stories
and legends regarding this most significant of British supernatural
figures, whose myths and wisdom are as relevant today as they have
ever been.

Baird T. Spalding played a ground-breaking role when he introduced
the Western world to the wonders of a Far East expedition in 1894.
The knowledge of "Masters" assisting and guiding humanity in the
classic book Life And Teaching Of The Masters Of The Far East
became legend in metaphysical circles during the first half of the
20th century and continues today as a source of spiritual
enlightenment. Spalding and the others were practical in nature and
the thought of spiritual masters performing miracles seemed
impossible. Despite these suspect thoughts, something compelled
them to move onward. So they did. Originally published as 3
separate volumes, this new, single volume edition comes with a new
introduction by Mitch Horowitz. It is within these 3 volumes that
Spalding details an expedition that lasted 3 years and covered the
mountainous landscape of Nepal and India near the close of the 19th
century.

Is America an assignment of destiny? What is the symbolism of the
Great Seal of the U.S.? Who was the mysterious stranger who swayed
the signers of the Declaration of Independence? According to Lord
Bacon, The New Atlantis seems to have been set apart for the great
experiment of enlightened self-government long before the founding
fathers envisioned the rise of the American Republic. Investigating
the often neglected fragments of history, evidence is presented
indicating that the seeds of democracy were planted one thousand
years before the beginning of the Christian Era.
