Jung and Moreno - Essays on the theatre of human nature (Paperback, New): Craig E. Stephenson Jung and Moreno - Essays on the theatre of human nature (Paperback, New)
Craig E. Stephenson
R1,456 Discovery Miles 14 560 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

To many, Jung and Moreno seem to be on opposite sides in their theories and their practices of psychotherapy. Jung defines self as emerging inwardly in an intrapsychic process of individuation; Moreno defines self as enacted outwardly in psychosocial networks of relationships. Jung and Moreno: Essays on the theatre of human nature shows how Jung and Moreno can be creatively combined to understand better and facilitate therapeutic work. Craig E. Stephenson and contributors write about how and why they put together Jung and Moreno. They describe and discuss psychodrama sessions grounded in the fundamentals of Jung's analytical psychology, as well as dream and fairy tale enactments and individual psychoanalytical sessions in which they employ psychodramatic techniques. The essays retheorize Jungian concepts of transference and complexes in the light of Moreno's insights. They reframe and deepen traditional psychodramatic techniques by securing them within Jung's archetypal context. Jung and Moreno challenges our understanding of healing practices and the integration of spontaneous unconscious processes, bringing these two ground breaking practitioners to meet collaboratively in the theatre of human nature. The contributions are original and insightful arguments by nine important thinkers. This book will be of interest to psychotherapists, analytical psychologists, psychoanalysts, psychodrama practitioners, drama therapists and students.

Transformative Learning through Creative Life Writing - Exploring the self in the learning process (Paperback, New): Celia Hunt Transformative Learning through Creative Life Writing - Exploring the self in the learning process (Paperback, New)
Celia Hunt
R1,222 Discovery Miles 12 220 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

Arising from a research project conducted over two years, "Transformative Learning" "through" "Creative Life Writing "examines the effects of fictional autobiography on adult learners sense of self. Starting from a teaching and learning perspective, Hunt draws together ideas from psychodynamic psychotherapy, literary and learning theory, and work in the cognitive and neurosciences of the self and consciousness, to argue that creative life writing undertaken in a supportive learning environment, alongside opportunities for critical reflection, has the power to transform the way people think and learn. It does this by opening them up to a more embodied self-experience, which increases their awareness of the source of their thinking in bodily feeling and enables them to develop a more reflexive approach to learning.

Hunt locates this work within recent developments in the influential field of transformative learning. She also identifies it as a form of therapeutic education arguing, contrary to those who say that this approach leads to a diminished sense of self, that it can help people to develop a stronger sense of agency, whether for writing or learning or relations with others. Topics covered include:

  • Creative writing as a tool for personal and professional development
  • The transformative benefits and challenges of creative writing as a therapeutic activity
  • The relationships between literary structures and the processes of thinking and feeling
  • The role of cognitive-emotional learning in adult education
  • Collaborative learning and the role of the group

This book will interest teachers in adult, further and higher education who wish to use creative life writing as a tool for learning, as well as health care professionals seeking art-based techniques for use in their practice. It will also prove useful to academics interested in the relationship between education and psychotherapy, and in the theory and practice of transformative learning. Additionally, it will appeal to writers seeking a deeper understanding of the creative process.

Three Voices of Art Therapy (Psychology Revivals) - Image, client, therapist (Hardcover): Tessa Dalley, Gabrielle Rifkind, Kim... Three Voices of Art Therapy (Psychology Revivals) - Image, client, therapist (Hardcover)
Tessa Dalley, Gabrielle Rifkind, Kim Terry
R3,423 Discovery Miles 34 230 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

The image, the client and the therapist are three essential aspects of the art therapy relationship; each has a separate 'voice'. In this book, originally published in 1993, the three voices come alive as the client, Kim, and the therapist, Gabrielle, tell the story of his path from suicidal despair to health and creativity through a series of extraordinary images. The images, chosen to represent the stages of Kim's therapeutic experience, speak for themselves and convey their importance as a powerful catalyst for change. An outer voice, that of Tessa Dalley, provides a theoretical commentary on the process as it occurs, adding to the understanding of what is happening in the therapeutic encounter. This fully rounded account of clinical practice in art therapy offers a rare insight into common issues and dilemmas which will make the book of interest to both professional and non-professional readers alike.

Old and New Horizons of Sandplay Therapy - Mindfulness and Neural Integration (Hardcover): Martin Kalff Old and New Horizons of Sandplay Therapy - Mindfulness and Neural Integration (Hardcover)
Martin Kalff; Edited by Paolo Ferliga
R4,182 Discovery Miles 41 820 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

This thoughtful and comprehensive book sheds new light on Sandplay Therapy, a method founded in the 1960s by Dora Kalff. It is based on the psychology of C.G. Jung and Margaret Lowenfeld, with inspiration from eastern contemplative traditions. This method is effectively used for psychotherapy, psychological counselling and development of the personality with children and adults. This book grew out of the collaboration of a supervision and research group with Italian therapists which regularly met for a period of over 10 years under the guidance of Martin Kalff. It focuses on how to understand in more depth the processes clients experience in Sandplay Therapy. An important feature of Sandplay is the possibility to create scenes in a box with sand. Worlds arise through the shaping of the sand and the use of miniatures, humans, animals, trees, etc. These creations manifest inner conflicts as well as untouched healing potential. This book discusses a number of techniques based on mindfulness such as 'spontaneous embodiment', the use of colours, spontaneous poetry, 'entering into the dream', to understand the work done in a Sandplay process and dreams and presents examples of clinical cases. These techniques are not only valuable for supervision but can also be used in therapy to help clients reconnect with body and feelings.

What We See and What We Say - Using Images in Research, Therapy, Empowerment, and Social Change (Hardcover, New): Ephrat Huss What We See and What We Say - Using Images in Research, Therapy, Empowerment, and Social Change (Hardcover, New)
Ephrat Huss
R4,104 Discovery Miles 41 040 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Image-based research methods, such as arts-based research, can fill the absence of the voice of impoverished, under-privileged populations. In What We See and What We Say, Ephrat Huss argues that images are deep and universally psycho-neurological constructs through which people process their experiences. The theoretical model demonstrated in this book demonstrates that images can be used to enable three different levels of communication: with self, with others similar to oneself, and with others who differ in terms of culture and power. Dr. Huss centers her argument on a case study of impoverished Bedouin women's groups in Israel who used art as self-expression, and includes many additional examples such as unemployed women and teenage girls in slums, women who have underwent sexual abuse, and the experiences of illegal immigrants. Ultimately, the author points to how the inherent structural characteristics of images help to intensify the voices of marginalized groups in research, therapy, empowerment, and social action.

The book helps service providers develop their own knowledge of activities and the health and well-being benefits an individual might receive from activities. It also asks them to consider the biases, assumptions, and constraints that might impact their ability to implement interventions related to activity and participation. A range of worksheets, resources, vignettes, and other tools are provided to support this practice. The manual was developed from the knowledge and practice of occupational science and therapy, but it will be of interest to any mental health professional, peer-provider, administrator, or policy maker interested in promoting recovery for people with serious mental illness

Eurythmy and Rudolf Steiner - Origins and Development 1912-39 (Paperback): Tatiana Kisseleff Eurythmy and Rudolf Steiner - Origins and Development 1912-39 (Paperback)
Tatiana Kisseleff; Translated by Dorothea Mier
R512 R463 Discovery Miles 4 630 Save R49 (10%) Ships in 9 - 17 working days

In the autumn of 1912, Rudolf Steiner presented the first eurythmy performance. It marked the revival, in modern form, of the sacred art of dance, which had been used in the ancient Mysteries to express the movements of the stars and the planets. In the years that followed, Steiner and his wife, Marie von Sivers, developed eurythmy further, broadening it beyond the artistic to encompass healing and educational elements as well. One of the pioneers of this new form of movement was the Russian anthroposophist Tatiana Kisseleff, who became a student of Steiner's and later a celebrated eurythmy teacher. In this remarkable book, available for the first time in English, Kisseleff describes the spiritual foundations of eurythmy as they were explored in Steiner's lectures and recounts the instruction she received from him. This is both an eyewitness account of the origins of eurythmy and a record of a deeply personal journey of one person's efforts to master it. The book is illustrated throughout with photographs, drawings, facsimile reproductions from notebooks and posters advertising early eurythmy performances, alongside accounts of performances of various pieces including Goethe's Faust and Rudolf Steiner's own Mystery Dramas. This is a fascinating account for eurythmists and anyone who wants to delve more deeply into eurythmy's history and development.

An Arts Therapeutic Approach to Maternal Holding - Developing Healthy Mother and Child Holding Relationships (Hardcover): Ariel... An Arts Therapeutic Approach to Maternal Holding - Developing Healthy Mother and Child Holding Relationships (Hardcover)
Ariel Moy
R4,184 Discovery Miles 41 840 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

Little research has explored the everyday, simple and long-term experience of maternal holding, particularly after the first year of a child's life. The research that has been undertaken commonly examines holding through the lens of attachment with a focus on the impact of holding upon the child. Employing an arts-based collaborative inquiry approach, participants' stories of holding, as well as the author's own, convey the significant maternal experiences of holding their children over individual arts therapeutic sessions. Optimal moments of holding included strange, powerful and meaningful experiences of expansion into self-in-relationship. Attention is drawn to the ways in which holding can alert us to the current state of mother/child relationships; how we understand, story and structure those relationships; and the ways in which we can attend to holding in order to develop deeply satisfying experiences of a mother/child 'us'. An Arts Therapeutic Approach to Maternal Holding aims to draw attention to the intersubjective qualities of the mother/child relationship, explore why holding matters, and offer suggestions for therapeutic practice. This book is essential reading for therapeutic practitioners and those in allied health fields who work with mothers and children.
