Focusing on Chicago's West Side, After Redlining illuminates how
urban activists were able to change banks' behavior to support
investment in communities that they had once abandoned. American
banks, to their eternal discredit, long played a key role in
disenfranchising nonwhite urbanites and, through redlining,
blighting the very city neighborhoods that needed the most
investment. Banks long showed little compunction in aiding and
abetting blockbusting, discrimination, and outright theft from
nonwhites. They denied funds to entire neighborhoods or actively
exploited them, to the benefit of suburban whites-an economic white
flight to sharpen the pain caused by the demographic one. And yet,
the dynamic between banks and urban communities was not static, and
positive urban development, supported by banks, became possible. In
After Redlining, Rebecca K. Marchiel illuminates how, exactly,
urban activists were able to change some banks' behavior to support
investment in communities that they had once abandoned. The leading
activists arose in an area hit hard by banks' discriminatory
actions and politics: Chicago's West Side. A multiracial coalition
of low- and moderate-income city residents, this Saul
Alinsky-inspired group championed urban reinvestment. And
amazingly, it worked: their efforts inspired national action,
culminating in the federal Home Mortgage Disclosure Act and the
Community Reinvestment Act. While the battle for urban equity goes
on, After Redlining provides a blueprint of hope.

In
Perche i fiumi e i laghi
From market memoirs, newspapers, financial journals, and
Congressional records, the author has woven a narrative describing
the political, social, and economic adjustment of the American
people to the speculative machinery that developed between 1868 and
the New Deal. The book begins with the struggle of Populist
legislators, representing stable farmers, to win a Congressional
ban of future commodity trading. Congress failed to act, but
anti-speculation, a characteristic of Populism, remained important.
In the Progressive era, the stock market rivaled the commodity
exchanges for attention. Criticism of market practices was rampant
as stories of Plungers spread, but no halt came until the crash.
Then New Deal philosophy favored the Progressive faction of the
anti-speculators. Originally published in 1965. The Princeton

A heartfelt, humorous personal memoir and relatable guide to
overcoming obstacles, wising up about romance, and getting ahead in
your career from the star of Netflix's hit reality show Selling
Sunset. In this engaging, witty, and inspirational memoir,
Chrishell Stause shares her story of living an unconventional

her path to become one of the most envied luxury realtors in Los
Angeles and buzzworthy cast members in reality TV. She takes us
behind the scenes of Selling Sunset, reveals never-before-told
stories from her life in soaps, and even pulls back the curtain on
her highly publicised love life, offering insight not before

tangible advice based on the lessons she's learned over the years
and offers unique insight about how to stay resilient and positive
no matter how many times life knocks you down. Under Construction

how, you have to get up, dress up and show up - and walk back into
the room stronger than ever before.
The Complete Guide to Property Development for the Small Investor
covers every stage of property development. Including both
practical 'how-to' advice and important guidance on making a profit
from property. This new edition constitutes an essential handbook
that is both comprehensive and user-friendly. Containing practical
checklists and extensive details on useful addresses and websites,
the book also provides updates on essential legislative changes
that will have an impact on both new and experienced developers.
This fully revised and updated third edition includes vital new
information on: changes to tax/VAT incentives; the impact of the
credit crunch on the UK property market (and the potential
opportunities if offers); the rise and fall (and potential rise
again) of the buy-to-let market; and the latest rules and
regulations affecting both landlords and tenants.
Toby Ditz explores the relationship among inheritance, kinship,
and the commercialization of agriculture. Comparing four upland
communities with a Connecticut River Valley town, she finds that
inheritance practices in the late colonial era heavily favored some
male heirs and created shared rights in property. These customs
continued into the early nineteenth century in the upland, but in
the commercialized river-valley town practices became more
egalitarian and individualized.
