Aquarius is a range of artist quality watercolours made by Roman Szmal.
The majority of Roman Szmal colours are single pigment paints, which
ensure clean mixing and let artists easily create their own colour
palettes.
Each colour is made with high quality gum arabic and glycerin, linden
honey, distilled water and pure pigments. Every pan is hand filled and
labelled with watercolour paper.
Colours are made in small batches that allow them to be carefully
checked. Every batch is tested for performance qualities: vibrancy,
flowing abilities, viscosity, colour value, transparency, granulation,
undertone, tinting strength, clarity and particle size. For each
colour, Roman Szmal select the perfect grind to match the particle size.

Daniel Smith Lavender (PW6, PV15, PB29) is a beautiful periwinkle blue, and quite different from Daniel Smith's other blues. This semi-transparent lavender blue has beautiful granulation, and lifts easily. Daniel Smith Extra Fine watercolours were released in 1993 and are renowned by artists across the world. The range combine ancient hues and precious minerals with the most modern developments in paint technology.Today, just like in 1993, these watercolours are 'formulated to meet and exceed the highest industry standards for the manufacture of artist's paints', and every batch made is tested and analyzed for its performance qualities.

To achieve the outstanding characteristics, like reusable paint when dried on a palette and the high control of paint flow even on soft water-colour papers Schmincke only use the best raw materials. In its coloristic appearance the total assortment is particularly harmonious, balanced and complete.
One main ingredient of the water-colour binding medium is Kordofan Gum Arabic from the southern Sahara region. Like most natural products this traditional water-colour binding medium differs from year to year. Therefore Schmincke is testing Gum Arabic every time before purchase and selects only the best crop of the respective year. This adds small but significant quality advantages. Other formula ingredients are selected equally carefully and of course are integrated in each formula in an individual optimised way to obtain a harmonious assortment, that can be easily picked up by the brush.
Another traditional quality criterion is the re-usability of the Horadam Aquarell water-colours while using the same formulation for tubes and pans. Both properties, the reusability and the control of the paint flow can only be achieved by pouring water-colours into pans in a liquid state, which is really unique.

The colours are chosen according to mass tone (colour from tube), undertone (bias of colour when in a thin film), colour strength, relative opacity and the character of the pigment in water colour, ie. granulating, staining or even wash. The resultant colour spectrum ensures the largest number of colours can be mixed from the range. The optimum brilliance of every colour in the Artists' Water Colour range is unparalleled by any other water colour. Remarkably, this brilliance is combined with high permanence.
Pigments: PG7, PB15
Permanency: Moderately Durable Colour
A European style transparent watercolour, Holbein watercolour also preserves the brush handling qualities inherent in traditional Japanese watercolour techniques. Without ox-gall or other dispersing agents, Holbein watercolour moves slowly, thus permitting greater colour density and brush control. It is a colour line with a consistent creamy texture that remains smooth when dry without cracking, crumbling, chipping or molding in the palette. It may be re-wetted easily like a pan colour. For this reason Holbein does not produce watercolours in pan form but allows artists to create their own selection.
Fill the wells of a suitable palette with the desired colour selection. Permit to dry, then wet the colour when needed. Holbein watercolours produce brilliant transparent washes as well as powerful clean darks when used in more concentrated applications. Engineered to surpass the quality standards set by both North American and European manufacturers, Holbein watercolour is widely preferred around the world for it's handling qualities. Holbein watercolour ranks as the world’s finest.

MaimeriBlu features an absolute purity of pigments that, together with gum arabic, compose the totality of the mixture. Imperceptible, transparent, clean. No blending powders, and no additives. Nothing harmonises or synchronises the shift between the various shades. The real value lies in the transparency of its colours and in the freshness of its washes. It is the whiteness of the paper that illuminates this type of painting. The light is behind the colour.

The range includes a good selection of vivid colours with creamy consistencies.

QoR Synthetic Ox Gall isa wetting agent that improves the flow of
watercolour paint. Add 2-5 drops to water to make watercolours
easier to apply and blend when creating washes. You can also wet
paper with a mixture of water and Synthetic Ox Gal to create
uniform washes. This water and ox gal blend is helpful when wetting
hard sized papers.
