The colours are chosen according to mass tone (colour from tube), undertone (bias of colour when in a thin film), colour strength, relative opacity and the character of the pigment in water colour, ie. granulating, staining or even wash. The resultant colour spectrum ensures the largest number of colours can be mixed from the range. The optimum brilliance of every colour in the Artists' Water Colour range is unparalleled by any other water colour. Remarkably, this brilliance is combined with high permanence.

To achieve the outstanding characteristics, like reusable paint when dried on a palette and the high control of paint flow even on soft water-colour papers Schmincke only use the best raw materials. In its coloristic appearance the total assortment is particularly harmonious, balanced and complete.
One main ingredient of the water-colour binding medium is Kordofan Gum Arabic from the southern Sahara region. Like most natural products this traditional water-colour binding medium differs from year to year. Therefore Schmincke is testing Gum Arabic every time before purchase and selects only the best crop of the respective year. This adds small but significant quality advantages. Other formula ingredients are selected equally carefully and of course are integrated in each formula in an individual optimised way to obtain a harmonious assortment, that can be easily picked up by the brush.
Another traditional quality criterion is the re-usability of the Horadam Aquarell water-colours while using the same formulation for tubes and pans. Both properties, the reusability and the control of the paint flow can only be achieved by pouring water-colours into pans in a liquid state, which is really unique.
Turner's concentrated Artists' Watercolours combine the finest pure
pigments with gum arabic to achieve the highest of lightfast
ratings and superb transparency and flow. The pigments are
painstakingly ground to a uniform fineness and are blended without
any fillers.Colour: 038Series: APigment: PG7, PY110,

A European style transparent watercolour, Holbein watercolour also preserves the brush handling qualities inherent in traditional Japanese watercolour techniques. Without ox-gall or other dispersing agents, Holbein watercolour moves slowly, thus permitting greater colour density and brush control. It is a colour line with a consistent creamy texture that remains smooth when dry without cracking, crumbling, chipping or molding in the palette. It may be re-wetted easily like a pan colour. For this reason Holbein does not produce watercolours in pan form but allows artists to create their own selection.
Fill the wells of a suitable palette with the desired colour selection. Permit to dry, then wet the colour when needed. Holbein watercolours produce brilliant transparent washes as well as powerful clean darks when used in more concentrated applications. Engineered to surpass the quality standards set by both North American and European manufacturers, Holbein watercolour is widely preferred around the world for it's handling qualities. Holbein watercolour ranks as the world’s finest.
Finetec Coliro Pearlcolors are unique shimmery metallic shades,
perfect for creating wonderful shiny effects across a variety of
techniques. Coliro Pearlcolors can be used in the same way as
watercolours, simply using a brush and water. They are suitable for
most surfaces including paper, stone and wood. Perfect to use on
dark paper, they are ideally suited for calligraphy but are
suitable for for many techniques in the same way watercolours would
be. Finetec Coliro Pearlcolors are manufactured using only
Mica-Pigments and Gum Arabic. Please note: because each colour is
hand-made no two colour pots are the same. Additionally, the colour
pots are slightly curved at the bottom due to the natural drying
process, this means sometimes a little hole can appear in the
middle of the colour pot after some use. This is not a default but
an effect of the manufacturing process.

QoR retains the best qualities of traditional watercolours, while
expanding the range and versatility of each colour. QoR's exclusive
binder (Aquazol) provides a greater density of colour than
conventional watercolours, offering vivid depth of colour with
every brushstroke. The unique QoR formula gives vibrant, intense
colours that stay brilliant even after they dry. It provides the
subtlety, transparency and flow of a great watercolour, with
colours that have as much vibrancy and fire as those of acrylic or
oil paint. QoR offers a greater resistance to cracking and flaking
than other watercolours. It also exhibits excellent re-solubility
in water and glazing qualities. CI Name : PBk7Pigment Name : Nearly

with the Chartreuse Yellow because it forms delicate autumnal
tones. Its nuance is reminiscent of "old Alizarin Crimson" but
without the lack of stability.Isaro Watercolour Paints are
handcrafted in Belgium by Isabel Roelofs, who comes from two
generations of paintmakers and is a descendant of well-known
Belgian artist, Willem Roelofs. Isaro watercolours have been
carefully crafted so that they have maximum transparency, providing
luminosity and excellent layering capabilities. Handmade in an
atelier in Belgium, Isaro use only high-quality gum arabic and
pigments in their watercolours. Gum arabic varies in colour from
very pale yellow to dark brown, and the gum darkens on contact with
the tannin in acacia bark. Isaro have selected the best acacia gum
that when dissolved in water gives a clear solution. This maintains
the purity and luminosity of the pigments. Glycerine and honey are
also used in very precise amounts to enable the paint to remain
supple. Isaro use a single-flower honey, the honey of acacia, so
that the honey is also very clear. The range of 60 colours is
available in 7ml tubes.

Quinacridone Sienna (PO48 PR209 PY150) is a orange terracotta hue similar to Burnt Sienna but with finer particles. Quinacridones are the brightest, boldest colours modern technology can offer. All Quinacridone colours excel in clarity, intensity, durability and transparency. Try using damp under Indigo or Payne's Gray to create compressed orange pools surrounded by greys.
