Originally published in 1962, this study discusses the changes in
the life of the Ovimbundu from the time of their caravan trade in
slaves, rubber, and ivory down to the more recent period when the
organization of their chiefdoms was influenced by the Catholic
missions, Portuguese administration and wage labour.
