Hot Rod (DVD)

All Rod Kimble wants out of life is to earn the respect of his bullying stepfather, Frank. While he cannot beat Frank in a fight, Rod goes about trying to emulate what he thought his real father was; namely a famous stuntman, working for Evil Knievel. He is angered to learn that Frank is in urgent need of a heart transplant, as he feels that Frank's death will rob him of his chance to "beat his face in" for him.

So Rod and his crew go about raising the amount of fifty thousand dollars that will be necessary to save Frank's life! Beautiful Denise, on whom Rod has a crush, is a welcome addition to the crew after she breaks up with her insufferable affluent former boyfriend, Jonathan and Rod prepares to ramp-jump over fifteen school busses on his moped, in order to ensure the success of their fund-raising project.

Very funny in parts, and predictable throughout: the happy ending is actually quite a moving one. Overall, it is excellent light entertainment, though the bad language prevents my recommending it to the entire family.

Andy Samberg stars as Rod Kimble, a stunt man with a fake mustache and a dream, in this outrageous comedy so unpredictable you won't know what hit you!

Rod has never landed a jump without wiping out. Hisfamily and friends think he's a joke. And, to top it off, his stepfather Frank uses him as his own personal punching bag. But he's not going to let a few minor problems keep him from the biggest stunt of his life!

Co-starring Isla Fisher and lan McShane, Hot Rod scales the heights of hilarity as Rod defies death to win the money, win the girl and, ultimately, win some respect.
