Andy Troy's first novel, Grim Devices, is a thriller set in the
menacing, sprawling metropolis of Arc City. Police detective Dante
Ford, once a gang member in the Arc's underworld, now finds himself
the target of a horrifying plot. He is sent a snuff film, his
gangland allies are kidnapped, and he is hunted by a mysterious,
terrifying figure in black. There is no telling how far Dante must
search, or how deeply he must suffer, to save the city he loves.
Inspired by pulp fiction and classical archetypes, Grim Devices is
at once a celebration and a deconstruction of the modern thriller.
Even as Dante is haunted by his violent past, he is also plagued by
the vicious masked killer known only as Me. With a mythic cast of
characters aiding him in his struggles, Dante discovers that the
key to defeating his nemesis lies in returning to the life he
abandoned-- however painful it might be.
